Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 Price, Specs, Antutu Benchmark Score : First True Octa Core Android Smartphone From CM
True to what we disclosed a week back, Cherry Mobile indeed launched its first ever Octa Core Android smartphone at the #WeAreOnFire media launch that I attended on behalf of the TP Community at the Hyatt Hotel in Manila earlier today.
The surprise came in the form of Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2, which now officially supersedes the high-end Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z from last year as the local electronics giant's newest flagship smartphone.
Obviously, the highlight of this release is its MediaTek MT6592 SoC -- the most powerful chip that the Taiwanese company has released to date. Launched in Beijing, China on November 20, 2013, MT6592 is a 'true octa core' chip with eight ARM Cortex A7 application processor clocked at 1.7-2.0 GHz and Mali 450-MP GPU clocked at 700 MHz.
Apart from the stellar chipset, CM Mobile Cosmos Z2 also comes replete with some of the best technical specifications and multimedia features that the local player could have given the product as of writing. The device flaunts a 5-inch Full HD IPS OGS display panel - underneath scratch-resistant DragonTrail Glass - that's a pure joy to behold, an 18 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash and BSI sensor, 8 MegaPixel front cam also with BSI sensor for clear and crisp selfies even in low light conditions, Full HD 1080p 30fps video recorder, HEVC video file format support, ClearMotion and Blur-Free video playback, Dual SIM Dual Standby Dual 3G capability, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G HSPA+ connectivity support, and a removable 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery pack, which delivers around a whole day of uptime with mixed usage.
Supplementing the processor to give a great Android 4.2 Jelly Bean experience, CM Cosmos Z2 also features 2 GB of RAM for efficient multitasking and 16 GB of internal storage or ROM that you can further expand using the device's microSD card slot that supports up to 64 GB.
According to Cherry Mobile, Cosmos Z2 will receive Android 4.4. KitKat firmware upgrade around March of this year, which users can easily download and install over-the-air or via WiFi connection. KitKat will ensure even smoother and more lag-free user experience on the handset.
"It looks very simple; The design is subdued and straight-forward. There are no metallic accents whatsoever. But it feels very solid in the hand and it doesn't hurt that it's also very slim and quite light," I thought while playing with the Cosmos Z2 during the event.
Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 - donning an official suggested retail price of Php 12,999 - will be available for purchase starting on February 5, 2014 at the CM Concept Store in SM North EDSA. Other Cherry Mobile stores and kiosks should start offering the model later this week.

Having such a powerhouse SoC, which can run all eight cores of the CPU at once, makes Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 an ideal handset for users who love playing specs-intensive games and applications on their smartphones. The handset's high Antutu Benchmark Score of 27,036 - higher than that of HTC One - reflects the stutter-free overall touch and mobile gaming experience that Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 provides.
