If you're wondering why today's Google Doodle is so, it's because today is the 57th anniversary of the bar code’s patent!

The Barcode's US Patent, # 2,612,994, is owned by Joseph Woodland, Bernard Silver, and Jordin Johanson -- who are also considered as the barcode's inventors. I bet they'd feel proud if they see the doodle.

Barcode Trivia: Did you know that the original barcode patent was for a system that would encode data in circles as in a bulls eye pattern, so that the code could be scanned in any direction?
