Just this morning, at a Meralco stockholders meeting, incumbent CEO - Manuel Lopez - disclosed in his farewell address that, starting July 1, Manny Pangilinan will assume his position as the company's new CEO.

Pangilinan who graduated cum laude from the Ateneo de Manila University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1966 and received his MBA degree in 1968 from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is also Chairman of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), Maynilad Water Services, Inc., Associated Broadcasting Company (TV5), Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, Medical Doctors, Inc., Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, Landco Pacific Corporation, Pilipino Telephone Corporation, Cure Inc. (Connectivity Unlimited Resource Enterprise, Inc.)(RED MOBILE), Pilipino Telecommunication Corporation (TALK N' TEXT) and Smart Communications.
Good lord. He now practically runs almost every service that we need to survive in this urban jungle. I swear if he replaces Claire dela Fuente as president of the Integrated Metropolitan Bus Operators Association and becomes Chairman of LTFRB, I'm gonna lose it! :D

The Manila Electric Company (PSE: MER and MERB), also known as MERALCO, is the Philippines' largest distributor of electrical power.
The word MERALCO, is an acronym for Manila Electric Railroad And Light COmpany, which was the company's original name from 1903 to 1919.
