Nokia N97 Mini : Quick Review, In the Flesh Photos, Verdict
This is already - terribly - long overdue (and I apologize for that) but I'm posting this nonetheless for those who are thinking about getting this phone this Yuletide.
Check out the undeniably stunning Nokia N97 Mini --
As you can see on its screen, N97 Mini runs Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5 OS
In true TechPinas tradition, let's do the panels first;
Top panels shows the 3.5mm audio jack and the Power button
The face flaunts the phone's 3.2" resistive touchscreen with 360x640 pixels resolution. Above the screen, you'll find the proximity sensor, earpiece and a secondary VGA camera. Below, we have the back hardware button and touch-sensitive call and drop keys.
Nothing at the rear but the landyard loop and the mouthpiece.
Left side has the microUSB port, a pair of speaker grills, and the lock-screen rocker
Right side has the volume rocker and the camera launch and capture button
At the back, you'll find the 5 MegaPixel camera (2592x1944 pixels) with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus, Dual LED flash and video light
Here's the patented slide mechanism -- first seen on Nokia N97. Notice that it's slanted so that the screen still faces you even when you place the phone on the table.
"Nokia N97 Mini ... Designed in Finland"
Alright.
Now, on to my Nokia N97 Mini Quick Review.
Because good things always come in pairs, let me share with you the two things that I ABSOLUTELY love about Nokia N97 Mini;
1. The stunning form factor and design identity -- Needless to say, this phone is one of the most gorgeous handsets ever released by Nokia. It just catches the eye. The unique slide mechanism, the metallic case, the rounded edges, all these elements give Nokia N97 Mini an understated elegance that's quite hard to beat. TIP: If you're going to buy Nokia N97 Mini, get it in Garnet/Gold.
2. Powerful Multimedia Features -- Like all other Nokia N-series releases, Nokia N97 Mini excels in the multimedia department. Its camera delivers impressive photos and above average videos. Sound quality when playing music files - with or without headphones - is also excellent; Clearly top-notch - in my opinion - when it comes to smartphones.
TP Verdict:
Nokia N97 Mini is an amazing phone. It looks sophisticated, expensive, gorgeous and its likewise powerful (with its ARM 11 434 MHz processor and 8GB of internal memory) and feature-packed.
While not in the league of the pocket-computer Nokia N900 when it comes to raw performance, internet browsing and multi-tasking or the Nokia N8 when we talk about cutting-edge image and video capture capabilities, in its own price category, Nokia N97 Mini is a tough phone to compete with.
I suggest you give it a test run at a Nokia Store in a mall near you. I'm sure, like me, you'll also fall in love with its form factor.
