Nokia N8 Pier Roxas Contest Finalists Announced!
Eight imaginative storytellers, but only one holds the key to Pier Roxas’s true identity.
Yesterday at Greenbelt 3 Cinema, Nokia Philippines unveiled the eight finalists who have weaved the most interesting plots to conclude the baffling tale of Pier Roxas. The Top 8 Finalists heeded Nokia N8 Project geNer8 and Smart Gold’s call to provide the best concluding story to help Pier Roxas remember who he is and piece together what happened to him in the last 8 days.
The Nokia N8 Project geNer8 Pier Roxas campaign received quite an impressive number of entries from people whose curiosities were piqued by the mystery that surrounds Pier Roxas. The campaign, which was highlighted as a short-film making competition, was launched in line with the unveiling of Nokia’s latest handset, the Nokia N8, dubbed the world’s best entertainment smartphone.
The Pier Roxas TV commercial was directed by Paul Soriano and is said to be the first to be shot using a mobile phone.
From the loads of entries who emailed their concluding stories, the best 8 stories were chosen. The Top 8 finalists are: Darren Codera, a 22-year-old Multi Media Arts student from ParaƱaque City; Andrei Guarin, a 26-year-old IT professional from Quezon City; Dr. Cyrus Pasamba, 32, from Quezon City and Glynis Lee, a 23-year-old nurse from Binondo, Manila; Paul Pineda, a 29-year-old scientific journal editor from Makati City; Ray de Leon, a 20-year-old TV crew from Quezon City; Albert Torralba, a 26-year-old English teacher from Sta. Ana, Manila; Juanita Bantay, a 25-year-old nurse from Bataan; and Mia Buenaventura, a 30-something short-film director.
These finalists came up with the most creative – even outrageous – storylines to complete Pier Roxas’s story given the following leads: He was found on a pier along Roxas Boulevard, he has a facial bruise, a lipstick smudge on his collar, an unfamiliar key, a parking ticket, and a Smart Gold SIM. Pier’s wallet is missing but he still has his Nokia N8 with no contacts.
Storylines from the chosen finalists range from alien abduction to a bad case of phobia, to hypnotics and Bourne Identity-esque conspiracies. Even Pier Roxas himself will be surprised by the crazy twists and turns of the stories submitted by these creative minds.
The Top 8 finalists will each receive a Nokia N8 and a chance to bring back Pier Roxas’s memory in HD. The finalists will get the chance to shoot their submitted script as the concluding sequence to the Pier Roxas story, using the Nokia N8. They will be given two consecutive days to prepare their final entries: one (1) day to shoot and one (1) day to edit. All final entries must be submitted on or before November 27, 2010 and will be judged according to the following criteria: Creative Storytelling – 30%; Adherence to the theme – 30%; Execution – 30%; and Audience Impact – 10%.
From these 8 finalists, only one will emerge the grand winner, who will bag the P50,000 cash prize. The grand winner will be announced on 11 a.m. on December 15, 2010 at the Nokia Philippines, Inc. office, 40th Floor, Philam Tower, 8767 Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.
