Next Symbian^3 Firmware Update to Bring Smooth Scrolling on Home Screen, Faster Browser, On-Screen Portrait QWERTY Keyboard?
Why didn't the Symbian team release this sooner? It could have saved the OS from being tagged 'a burning platform'.
Earlier today, Engadget got hold of this video showing Nokia X7 running an unreleased version of the Symbian^3 UI with smooth scrolling on home screen, faster browser and portrait on-screen keyboard -- basically the three things that would have made Symbian look more like a serious competition to iOS or Android.
It's already on a phone so there's reason to believe that it's ready for release.
I want this on my Nokia N8! Nokia, please release the firmware update soon.

Yo mark,
ReplyDeleteYou know i'm pro symbian BUT i can't agree with
" It could have saved the OS from being tagged 'a burning platform'."
I believe that the changes above are just things used to hide the fact that symbian is an aged and old platform. But being more beautiful in terms of aesthetics and performance is not bad either, which the enhancements that the summer update brings.
A better statement could be "Why didn't the Symbian team release this sooner? It could have made the OS a 'slowly burning platform' rather than just 'a burning platform' "
cheers :P

ReplyDeleteI have read somewhere that theres a developer politics going on inside nokia. Different style of coding separates inside developers from one another which cause the slow progress in symbian development.
