Cebu Pacific To Bring Wifi On Air Service to the Philippines!
If there's one value-added service that I've always wanted to get from our local carriers, it's definitely Wifi-On-Air.
As someone whose business is based online and who simply loves to always stay connected with family and friends, I wanna be able to do the things that I usually do on my smartphone, tablet or notebook - like access my email account, check TechPinas, update my Twitter status, post on my Facebook Timeline, check-in on Foursquare and read my favorite blogs and websites - wherever I go; Even while literally traversing the clouds.
And I bet you do too.
Thankfully, we won't have to wait for too long before we can enjoy such service.
Starting next year, Cebu Pacific Air, the Philippines' largest flag carrier, will offer On-Air Internet service to passengers in its Airbus A330 fleet - consisting of 4 aircrafts that are also set to arrive in 2013. The airline likewise has the option to install Wifi on its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, for short haul flights, in the next phase.
Once CebuPac begins providing the in-flight connection, it will become the first ever LCC in SouthEast Asia to offer the service; A true landmark in the history of Philippine air transport industry.
Thumbs up, Cebu Pacific!
So what's their inspiration for bringing Wifi to their flights?
Well, according to Ms. Candice Iyog, Vice President for Marketing and Distribution of CEB, "Cebu Pacific has a highly social community of over 600,000 likes on Facebook and over 380,000 Twitter followers. We are very happy to provide our guests with the convenience of online connectivity while in-flight. CEB can now engage passengers through innovative web-based solutions that will further enhance their flying experience with us."
Mr. Ian Dawkins, CEO of OnAir - the company that Cebu Pacific is currently working with to make the service possible, added, "Cebu Pacific's focus on social media makes inflight connectivity an obvious option, both so that passengers can stay connected throughout their journey, and so the airline can continue reaching its passengers. Cebu Pacific is OnAir’s first low-cost, long-range Wi-Fi client in Asia. As the air transport market develops, we expect to see more LCCs operating long-haul routes and there is no doubt they will want to provide connectivity."
Yes, I'm sure other carriers in the region will follow suit. And that will only reinforce Cebu Pacific's image as a true pioneer and trailblazer! 'Yan ang Pinoy!
