Nokia Lumia 800 and 900 Win Gold Award in Design Innovation
I've played with both smartphones and though I'm obviously not a design expert, I can honestly say - even as a regular user - that they deserve every bit of that recognition.
Recently, both Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900 received the gold award in design innovation in the 2012 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). The Jury chose to reward these two Lumia Windows Phone handsets from the Finnish company on the merit of their line's distinctive contribution to smartphone design.
Quoting the Jury, "In a market in which it is difficult to stand out, the Nokia Lumia brings a fresh perspective." The Nokia Lumia series carries an 'iconic form that is personal and inviting without sacrificing precision. Its construction is also very modern, efficient and well-crafted down to the smallest details.'
"It's a bold, gold-worthy effort, and I'm glad to see Nokia reclaim its design swagger," added Jonah Becker, Principal and Creative Director, One & Co.
IDEA is hosted annually by the Henry Ford Museum, official home of American ideas and innovation. Over twenty international design experts head to Dearborn, Michigan, for a two-day huddle that decides the winners. Entries for the IDEA included diverse ideas and objects from smartphones to sports gear, bathroom furniture to bicycles, commercial products to student projects.
Do you own a Nokia Lumia 800 or Nokia Lumia 900? What can you say about the design of your smartphone? Kindly share your thoughts in the comments section.
