Cherry Mobile W500 Titan Price, Phablet Specifications : CM's Cheap Dual SIM Dual Standby Android Smartphone-Tablet Hybrid to be Announced Tonight!
Cherry Mobile will be launching two new Android smartphones tonight via an event at One Esplanade in Pasay City.
CM has already released a number of Android devices in the past but one of the handsets that will be introduced in a bit is kinda special because it's going to be their first smartphone-tablet hybrid or "phablet". And looking at its price tag, I believe they want it to go head to head with the Lenovo S880 in that entry-level or midrange price category.
Cherry Mobile W500 Titan aka Konka W990 in China features a 5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display, runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system with its 1 GHz Dual Core MT6577 processor, and handles multitasking with 512MB of RAM. Users also get a 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash at the back, which also works as a 720p HD video recorder, 4GB of internal storage that's expandable via microSD card slot, and a quite sizable Li-Ion 2350 mAh battery. As for connectivity, the phone supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G.
Really, this phablet has totally decent innards (which are enough to have us looking) but I think that there are two things that make it even more special. First, unlike far more expensive phablets by bigger companies that are currently out in the market, Cherry Mobile W500 Titan has Dual SIM Dual Standby functionality allowing you to stay connected on two networks at the same time. And second, according some CM fans, the handset only costs Php 6,499 (to be confirmed) at some Cherry Mobile outlets; That's less than half the SRP of Lenovo S880, which has almost similar technical specifications.
Update as of 12:25 AM, October 25, 2012: Cherry Mobile has just confirmed the official suggested retail price of Cherry Mobile W500 Titan via the company's Twitter account. As earlier reported on TechPinas, the phablet's SRP is indeed Php 6,499.
TP Friends, I haven't really owned nor extensively used any Cherry Mobile handset so I can't really vouch for their products' quality. Just from looking at its specs sheet though, I guess we can call W500 Titan a good release. The phone is out now at all Cherry Mobile outlets across the archipelago and I'm thinking, "Should we check it out?"
Are you currently using a Cherry Mobile Android smartphone? What can you say about its quality? Is it reliable? How about the after-sales service? Will you recommend Cherry Mobile to other smartphone users?
