I guess this one's for consumers who feel that Samsung's flagship releases - Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Galaxy Note2 - are just way too big for their hands.
Or maybe, the Korean company will release it simply to show Apple fans that iPhone 5 specifications merely match those of its 'mini' handsets.
Set to be announced at an exclusive press event in New York tomorrow, Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is a midrange smartphone that flaunts a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating right out of the box with its 1 GHZ Dual Core STE processor. Other key specifications include 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage that's expandable via microSD card slot, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity support, 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with flash, and possibly a 720p HD video recorder.
Based on leaked photos of the device courtesy of MobileGeeks, Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini appears to feature the same pebble-like, "nature inspired" design identity as its bigger sibling, the Samsung Galaxy S3. In fact, true to its name, the former simply looks like a shrunk version of the flagship level release.
The smartphone is expected to hit store shelves in Europe first sometime within this month with an SRP of around 399 Euros or around Php 21,345 with current conversion and before taxes. Considering that the Philippines is always one of the first countries to get new Samsung releases these days, I guess we can expect Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini to arrive here real soon.
