For Talented Young Photographers: Join PLDT DPC 27th Visual Arts Competition! Win Big Prizes for you and your School!
Are you 15 to 24 years old and currently enrolled in any school in the country? Are you into photography? Do you love taking photos of local settings or anything that captures the idea that it's truly more fun in the Philippines?
If your answer to all of these questions is a big 'yes', then I'm inviting you to join the 27th Visual Arts National Competition of Directories Philippines Corporation (DPC) and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT)!
This year, DPC and PLDT have tied up with the Department of Tourism (DOT) and adapted the competition’s theme, "More fun in the Philippines," which - as all of you know - is our national tourism campaign.
"More fun has been interpreted in many ways," shared Mr. Ricardo D. Bautista, DPC President. "We want our young photography buffs to think of something different, original — something that projects the positive side of Filipinos in their local settings."
Last year, 21 year old Ruel James Villamayor bagged first place for his blinking tarsier photo taken in Bohol. Aside from bringing home the cash prize, his photo was featured on the 2012 cover of PLDT phone directories and DPC Yellow Pages in Metro Manila. "Because of it, more people started to notice my work and to treat me more like a pro," Ruel told me when I interviewed him after the launch event for this year's competition.
He also shared with me the cool story behind his award-winning tarsier photo and even gave a few brilliant tips for those who are planning to join the competition. So if you intend to win the top plum this year, I really think you'd do well to watch the entire clip:
How to join?!
Well, each student can submit up to three entries, in full color or black and white with an 8" x 12" portrait orientation and at least 10 megapixels resolution. Of course, the photo must capture the theme for this year, "It's more fun in the Philippines."
TP Tip: Think of something different, positive and original. And remember, as Ruel said, "Follow the mechanics!"
All entries must be uploaded to the official website of this year's competition, VisualArts.PH, starting November 28 until the last day for submission, February 22, 2013.
There will be four major national prizes consisting of cash up to Php 80,000, a trophy, front cover feature on PLDT Directories and DPC Yellow Pages, and a camera, courtesy of Canon, the official imaging and printing partner for the competition. In addition, their schools will each receive a high-end Canon PIXMA printer and cash prize up to Php 25,000! So yes, both the student and his or her school will win big. Ain't that cool?
There will also be People's Choice Award winners for Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao to be determined via online voting through the competition website. (Hence, if you make it as a finalist, you might want to campaign for your work.) The winner in this category will be given Php 20,000 plus trophy, front cover for select DPC-PLDT Telephone Directories, and feature stories for multimedia release.
For the full mechanics, prizes and other details on the competition, student photo enthusiasts, school administrators and faculty are invited to visit to VisualArts.PH. So what are you waiting for?! Join now, TP Friends!
