Samsung Galaxy S4 Active IP57 Certified Water and Dust Resistant Version of SGS4 : Price and Release Date Guesstimate, Complete Specs!
There's an old adage that goes "Strike while the iron is hot." And Samsung has sure taken that saying to heart.
As if the tremendous launch month sales figures of Samsung Galaxy S4 - the regular version - isn't enough to convince the peeps at the Korean company to take a break and chill for a bit, it appears they're now prepping to launch a tougher and more tenacious variant of that best-seller, literally.
For me, there are two things that the existence of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active does and proves. First, with it, Samsung gets the chance to show everyone that Sony isn't the only company that's capable of creating flagship level smartphones that can get IP57 certification for being both dust and water resistant. Sony Xperia Z totally slayed Samsung Galaxy S4 in this department and Samsung wasn't about to take the Japanese company's obvious upfront lightly.
Samsung has released Active Android smartphones in the past. But this is the first time that they brought IP57 compliance to the flagship echelon.
Second, SGS4 Active proves that Samsung isn't the type to rest on its laurels and that the company continues to work really hard to maintain its momentum. In fact, I would imagine that this variant was created with utter urgency following most tech blogs' positive reviews of the Sony Xperia Z. In my initial impressions post of SXZ, for instance, I mentioned that while the handset isn't quite right up there with SGS4 in terms of specs, the fact that it can survive a splash of water definitely makes it a worthy competitor in the high-end category.
As of writing, we know very little about Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. No official word yet from the Korean company on the smartphone's pricing and release details but we do know a few key technical specification and I've taken the liberty to list them down below. Based on the price and availability of the regular Samsung Galaxy S4, I'm guessing that SGS4 Active will don a similar price tag - as the two phones practically have the same innards and while SGS4 Active has IP57 certification, it has a less powerful main camera compared to the standard variant - and will be available come Q3 2013.
