Sony Xperia ZR Philippines Price Guesstimate, Waterproof IP55 IP58 Certified for Underwater Video Recording, Complete Technical Specifications
As if it's 2013 Android smartphone line-up isn't already jam-packed, Sony has just announced that it will soon launch yet another powerhouse high-end device that you can literally dive into the pool with.
Meet Sony Xperia ZR.
In terms of technical specifications, Sony Xperia ZR can be considered as the more modest and less powerful version of the flagship release Sony Xperia Z. For one, the former has a smaller 4.55 inch 720p display compared to the 5-inch Full HD screen of the latter. ZR also has a lower resolution VGA front-facing camera and a smaller 8GB internal storage versus 16GB on Z.
But what Sony Xperia ZR lacks in those departments, it makes up for with its IP55 and IP58 certification, which means that it is totally proofed against water ingress at up to 1.5 meters for a duration of 30 minutes, making it an ideal device for taking underwater videos. In contrast, Sony Xperia Z merely comes with IPX5/7 compliance, which means that it is only resistant to water; Yes, Z can take a splash of water but if you decide to immerse or submerge it in liquid for an extended period, there's no guarantee that won't be damaged.
I'm hoping that Sony Xperia ZR will come with a far lower price tag than its flagship sibling. But considering that it comes with the same stellar innards - headlined by the Quad Core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU and 2 GB of RAM, the same 13 MegaPixel main camera and 1080p 30fps video recorder, and similar connectivity options, I have a hunch that its SRP won't be too pocket-friendly.
As of writing, the legendary Japanese multimedia company hasn't disclosed the official suggested retail price nor the exact release date of Sony Xperia ZR. Nonetheless, they have given assurance that the handset will definitely be formally released in the Philippines within this year. The TP Guesstimate for this smartphone's SRP is around Php 28,000 to Php 30,000 and for its release date, we're seeing a Q3 launch.
