Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD Price, Complete Specs, 5-inch Quad Core Phablet Antutu Benchmark Test Score
Just like almost all other Android smartphone manufacturers these days, Alcatel Lucent - it appears - has decided to adopt Samsung's way of marketing handsets -- and that's to have two flagship devices concurrently available to consumers; One device being a sub-5-inch smartphone and the other, a phablet.
As of writing, Alcatel Philippines has two high-end handsets out in the market. First, is the ultra-thin Alcatel One Touch Idol also known as Iron Man's phone and the other is this, the svelte Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD.
Shipping with both a stylus and a flip cover and flaunting a massive 5-inch HD IPS display, Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD is the company's version of an Android smartphone-tablet hybrid. Sure, the stylus isn't as well integrated with the system - both physically and in terms of applications - as Samsung's Note series but it does allow you to write and draw on the big screen with better accuracy and speed than you would using your just your finger.
If you ask me, though, what makes this device a legit phablet (apart from its large display) are its stellar innards and imaging capabilities - headlined by the MediaTek MT6589 chipset and the 8 MegaPixel main camera - which deliver a powerful and enjoyable mobile experience.
During our in-house testing, Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD got a rather high Antutu Benchmark score of 12,926, which is almost - if not exactly - the same as that of Samsung Galaxy S3. The device's Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, PowerVR Series5XT GPU, and 1 GB of RAM combine to deliver a smooth and almost lag-free performance.
To those who are asking, Scribe HD's capacitive touchscreen stylus has a metal shell and a rubber head. You'd have to carry it separately in your pocket or bag, though, as the phablet doesn't have a slot where you can shove it in. The flip cover, on the other hand, attaches magnetically to the back of the phablet -- kinda like Apple's Smart Cover for the iPad.
Off hand, there are two things I really like about this release. First is its very slim yet solid construction, which gives an air of both elegance and durability. And second, I love the long uptime - around 10 to 12 hours of regular use - made possible by the quite sizable 2,500 mAh Li-Ion battery pack -- albeit non-removable. I'll be posting my full review of the phablet next week so kindly stay tuned.
Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD is now available across the country at all authorized Alcatel retailers. You can get it for Php 13,490, which I think is not bad at all considering the device's attractive design and powerhouse specifications.
