Nokia Lumia 1020 Philippines Price and Release Date Guesstimate, Complete Specs, Sample Photos
As it turned out, almost all previously leaked information about Nokia Lumia 1020 formerly known as Nokia Lumia EOS were accurate -- from the design language right down to technical specifications.
So really, this is nothing we haven't seen before.
The upcoming device is absolutely incredible -- but, as an owner of both powerhouse cameraphones Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia 808 PureView, I'm on the fence about its existence and imminent release.
On one hand, I'm very happy that Nokia continues to set the standard when it comes to mobile imaging. I'm probably the biggest Nokia fan in this region and the fact that the company continues to come up with stunning innovations and brilliantly designed smartphones amidst all the challenges only makes me fall in love with the brand even more. On the other hand, I feel kinda sad that both of my handsets - which I'm extremely proud of - have officially been superseded by something better.
In fact, Nokia Lumia 1020 appears to be a combination of both Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia 808 PureView. It comes with the unprecedented imaging prowess of Nokia 808 PureView headlined by its whopping 41 MegaPixel camera, Nokia imaging algorithms, and PureView technology that compresses multiple pixels resulting in the clearest images and videos possible -- even on full zoom. And on top of that, it features Nokia Lumia 920's industry-leading low-light imaging performance and optical image stabilization made possible by multiple floating lenses, which compensate for hand movement while taking photos and recording videos.
For me, these characteristics of Nokia Lumia 1020 should be more than enough to give it the title as the new best cameraphone in the world today. And these sample shots (along with zoomed views) taken using the smartphone would prove just that.
Apart from having the best imaging capabilities on any handset out in the market, Nokia Lumia 1020 also runs the latest version of Windows Phone operating system and features the new Nokia Smart Camera and Pro Camera applications, which you can use to make the most of the smartphone's 41 MegaPixel camera and 1/1.5" sensor. More about Windows Phone 8 as well these new imaging apps from Nokia on TechPinas soon.
As for internal specifications, Nokia Lumia 1020 is powered by a Dual Core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU and comes replete with 2 GB of RAM, a sizable 32 GB of non-expandable internal storage, non-removable 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery pack, and WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, and LTE connectivity support.
Nokia has also unveiled several cool accessories for Nokia Lumia 1020. This Camera Grip, for example, makes it easier for the user to hold the phone or to attach it to any standard camera tripod when taking shots and even doubles as rechargeable battery case with 1,020 mAh capacity - delivering up to 55 minutes of additional shooting time. You can also get the Nokia Wireless Charging Cover allowing you to charge the handset without having to plug it to an electrical outlet.
I love it! So when will it be available? Nokia Philippines has yet to disclose the release date and pricing details of Nokia Lumia 1020 in the country. Nevertheless, I'm expecting this smartphone to land here during the latter part of the year -- perhaps, just in time for your Yuletide gadget shopping. As for the SRP, the TP Guesstimate is around Php 31,990 -- based on the phone's official suggested retail price in the United States.
Update as of September 26, 2013: I've just received an invitation from Nokia Philippines for the official launch of Nokia Lumia 1020 in the country happening on October 1, 2013. It remains to be seen whether Nokia will make the handset available to consumers on the same day or on a later date. Likewise, we've yet to get official word from the company on the phone's suggested retail price.
Update as of October 1, 2013: Nokia has just officially launched Nokia Lumia 1020 in the Philippines via an exclusive media event held in Ayala Museum. The handset will hit store shelves across the archipelago on October 11, 2013 with an official SRP of Php 36,650, which is a bit higher than our TP Guesstimate. Nonetheless, for that amount, you do get a free camera grip that also works as a battery case for the phone.
