Google Nexus 7 2013 2nd Generation Price, Specs, Unboxing, Packaging and Accessories Check, Kimstore Discount!
Nexus 7 2013, the follow-up to last year's best-selling Asus-made entry-level tablet from Google, is now available in the Philippines via Kimstore, the leading and most trusted online gadget store in the country.
Last Friday, my friend Kim Lato sent me a retail unit - the 16GB WiFi-only variant - to play with and I couldn't be happier with the product.
To be honest, when Google announced the new tablet and disclosed its official specifications several days back, I really felt unsure about upgrading to it from my first generation Google Nexus 7. I thought the changes were minimal and that my year-old device would definitely have no problem running the newest version of Android OS anyway.
Without nitpicking on the specifics, it's easy to assume that the 2013 release is largely similar to its predecessor. One can say that the two have the same quad core processor, 7-inch display, and 16 GB and 32 GB internal storage options.
But really, Nexus 7 second generation represents a major upgrade from last year's slate in almost all departments -- that is, from the design right down to the camera.
Google Nexus 7 2013 is thinner, slimmer, and lighter than the 2012 version and comes replete with a higher resolution and far more crisp display, a more powerful Snapdragon S4Pro chipset, and has a 5 MegaPixel main camera capable of Full HD 1080p video recording at the back, which was absent in the previous release.
With dimensions of 200 x 114 x 8.7 millimeters and weighing only 290 grams, the new Nexus 7 is a joy to hold with one hand and should be less conspicuous when placed in a bag.
It doesn't flaunt a bedimpled back case with faux leather finish anymore but it does have a matte shell which not only feels great to touch but also prevents the slate from accidentally slipping your grasp.
On the right side, just like in Nexus 7 1st Gen, you will find the power button and the volume rocker.
Let me show you the other items in the package.
Lifting the flap of paper, you'll find the USB charger, microUSB to USB connector cable, and the user manual and safety information in two languages, English and French (at least, in the package that I have).
