How to Check if Nokia Amber Update is Available for Download on your Nokia Lumia 920, 820, 720, 620, and 520
Finnish giant Nokia has just started rolling out the much-awaited Amber update to all of its pre-Nokia Lumia 925 handsets running Windows Phone 8 operating system, namely, the Nokia Lumia 920, 820, 720, 620, and 520.
Amber brings a number of neat features to these already powerhouse handsets including but not limited to Nokia Smart Camera - allowing you to take and manipulate multiple frame images, Nokia Pro Camera for the Nokia Lumia 920 that lets users adjust settings before taking shots, Nokia Glance Screen bringing a clock to the screen when the phone is inactive, Nokia's graphical storage check page, and faster Nokia HERE Maps update. The firmware upgrade will also give users the much-requested flip to silence and double tap to wake features, which we first saw in Nokia N9.
If you're wondering how you can check if Nokia Amber update is already out and available for download on your Lumia over the air or via WiFi or mobile connection, here's how you do it.
1. Go to your phone's Settings.
2. Scroll down and click on Phone Update.
3. Under Phone Update, click on the Check for Updates button.
You might also want to check the boxes for 'Tell me when updates are available for my phone' and 'Automatically download updates if my data settings allow it.' so you won't have to always manually check for updates.
If Amber is already available for your phone, your Lumia will prompt you to download and install the update files. After the installation, the phone will restart on its own and you can finally enjoy all the benefits of the firmware upgrade. Amber update roll out will be done in batches starting today until early September -- so if you don't immediately get it on your handset, just keep checking and be patient.
