Sony Xperia M Philippines Price, Specs, Initial Review, Unboxing, Antutu Benchmark Test Score, Sample Camera Photos
If you're looking for a midrange Android smartphone that gives great value for the money, you might to include Sony Xperia M in your list of handsets to check out.
I've played with the sub-Php 10,000 fresh release of the Japanese company and I have to say, it's really one of the best smartphones in the mid-level price echelon currently.
Not only does it look great (as you can see in these in the flesh photos) but it also has powerful innards and comes with stellar multimedia features.
Sony Xperia M flaunts a design identity - replete with faux metal accents - reminiscent of that of its more expensive siblings, Sony Xperia Z and Sony Xperia Z1, albeit lacking the same glass-sandwich 'Omnibalance' contruction. Furthermore, unlike those two, you can remove the back cover of Sony Xperia M (with matte finish) to access (and even extract) the battery, and the mini SIM (regular) and microSD card slots.
The 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash can be launched simply by pressing on the phone's hardware camera button -- a rarity in Android phones these days. The main snapper (just like the VGA front-cam) doesn't really have a backside illuminated sensor unlike pricier releases by Sony but surprisingly, it performs quite well even when shooting macro shots or under low light conditions. Check out these sample shots -- all taken with flash.
Sony Xperia M runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system - skinned by an updated version of the company's Xperia interface with Socialife services - with a Dual Core 1 GHz Krait CPU and Adreno 305 GPU based Qualcomm Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8227 chipset and handles multitasking with 1 GB of RAM.
The phone's rather powerful innards combine to give it an Antutu Benchmark Test score of 11,679 and Quadrant Standard score of 4438.
I know a lot of you have seen higher scores by other Android phones - especially those by local companies - in this price point. But let me tell you, Sony Xperia M's benchmark scores hardly reflect the almost iOS-like level of touch-response and smooth gaming performance that the handset delivers. Swiping and typing on Sony Xperia M's 4-inch 480 x 854 pixels display is enjoyable and lag-free.
Oh, and one more thing, Sony Xperia M's loud speaker - as expected from a release by the legendary Japanese multimedia company - is one of the best out there. The sound emanating from it can go loud yet remain amazingly crisp and clear.
TP Friends, here's how Sony Xperia M's retail package looks:
Inside the simple paper box, you will find the unit itself, the rather sizable 1,750 mAh Li-Ion battery pack, the charger, microUSB to USB connector cable, the earphones, the user manual and safety information.
Sony Xperia M is now available at Kimstore, the most trusted online store (and my personal choice when it comes to online gadget purchases) in the Philippines. Kim offers the handset - which is available in four colors, namely, Purple (my fave), Black, White, and Yellow - for only Php 9,880. At that amount, I promise you, it's already a steal.
