Contest for Young Pinoy Photographers : DPC PLDT 28th Visual Arts Competition - Mechanics, Prizes, Deadline for Submission of Entries
Great news for all you 15 to 24 year old Pinoy students who are into photography! Here' your chance to join a contest where you can showcase your skills in taking images. And if you win, you'll bring home big prizes not just for yourself but also for your school.
Last October 16, 2013, Directories Philippines Corporation (DPC) and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) launched the the 28th edition of their annual Visual Arts Competition (VAC 28) among guests from the academe, traditional media, and new media at the Gateway Mall in Quezon City.
Since 2011, the DPC-PLDT Visual Arts Competition has employed digital photography as its medium of entry to engage the ever-growing number of young but highly creative Filipino photo enthusiasts. Students, 15-24 years of age and currently enrolled in any local school, are once again invited to join the contest.
If you remember TP Friends, in 2011, then 21-year old Ruel James Villamayor bagged first place in the VAC for his blinking tarsier photo taken in Bohol. Aside from bringing home the cash prize, his photo was also featured on the 2012 cover of PLDT telephone directories and the DPC Yellow Pages in Metro Manila. "Because of it, more people started to notice my work and to treat me more like a pro," Ruel told me when I interviewed him after the launch event for the 2012 competition.
To reinforce the Filipino youth’s connection to their roots, DPC and PLDT are adopting "Scenes from My Hometown" as the official 2013 VAC 28 theme.
"We want a strong local flavor this year," Mr. Ricardo D. Bautista, DPC President, shared. "We’re expecting a bumper crop of photographs, each one capturing the unique beauty, charm or character of that town or city that a student has learned to call—or has always known to be — home."
Are you feeling good about this year's competition? Do you think you'll be the lucky winner this year? Well, join now! Each student can submit up to three entries, either in full color or in black and white. To qualify for the major prizes, any entry must have an 8” x 12” portrait orientation with a resolution of at least 10 megapixels. All entries must be uploaded to the contest’s website, VisualArts[dot]PH (which also contains the complete mechanics for the contest), between October 16, 2012 and February 7, 2014 (up to 11:59 PM). Remember: Follow instructions!
The grand prize winner will take home Php 80,000 in cash, a special trophy designed by sculptor, Impy Pilapil, and a Canon EOS 550D digital camera. In addition, his or her school will receive a Php 25,000 donation from DPC and PLDT, plus a Canon PIXMA printer. The next three major winners and their respective schools will receive similar prizes. The top 50 finalists will automatically win Php 5,000 in cash, and their works will be put on display at Gateway Mall. Among the top 50 pictures, the public can select their favorites for the People’s Choice Awards — one each for Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao — via online voting through the competition website.
