O+ 8.91 Price, Specs, Unboxing, Initial Review, Antutu Benchmark Score : Thin 5-inch Android Smartphone with 3,000 mAh Battery
American handset company, O+, has a new Android smartphone out that's ideal for budget conscious consumers who want a very affordable yet capable handset with long battery life!
Donning a price tag of only Php 6,995, O+ 8.91 doesn't only look good and has decent technical specifications for a device in its price category but it also comes with a rather large battery pack ensuring stellar uptime, which I'm sure everyone would appreciate.
If you're sick and tired of always having to charge your phone in your office midway though the day even if you leave your house in the morning with it having 100% battery, O+ 8.91's removable 3,000 mAh Li-Po battery pack should end all of your woes and worries. Of course, battery life will depend on your usage of the device -- but personally, the phone has never let me down. I've been using O+ 8.91 for a week now and so far, I've never found myself having to plug it to an electrical outlet before the day ends and that's even if I use the handset to browse the net, update Facebook and check Twitter over 3G for more than 8 hours.
But what's really cool about O+ 8.91 - looks-wise, at least - is that even if it has that ginormous battery pack, it is still amazingly thin! With depth of just around 9 millimeters, the smartphone is a joy to hold and it definitely won't be all too conspicuous or bothersome when you put it inside your jean's front pocket.
And it also doesn't hurt that O+ 8.91 flaunts a very sleek and elegant design language highlighted by the metallic band running down its sides and framing the scratch-resistant glass face, and the matte plastic back case, which doesn't just help prevent accidental slippage from your grasp but is also hardly a fingerprint magnet.
Before I give a quick rundown of the handset's key technical specifications, I want to show you the packaging as well as the accessories that join the device inside the box.
Inside the carton packaging, which most O+ smartphone owners should already be familiar with, you will find a black tray with velvet texture - cradling the O+ 8.91 unit itself and the earphones with extra silicon buds - lifting it, you'll be greeted by the charger, the microUSB to USB connector cable, the 3,000 mAh Lithium Polymer battery pack, user manual, and the free 8GB SanDisk microSDHC card.
At the bottom of the box, O+ printed a list of the handset's key (and too detailed) technical specifications for quick reference. Just from giving it a quick glance, you'll immediately notice that O+ 8.91 is a midrange release.
The smartphone runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system with a 12 GHz Dual Core ARM Cortex A7 CPU and 500 MHz Mali-400 MP2 GPU based MediaTek MT6572 chipset. This processor - released just this Q3 2013 - is more powerful than the Dual Core MT6577 chip, which powered the device's direct predecessor, the gorgeous and popular O+ 8.9. Other specs and features include 512 MB of RAM, 1.3 GB of user available internal storage that you easily expand using the free 8GB microSD card, 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash but without BSI sensor, 720p HD video recorder, 2 MegaPixel front cam sans BSI sensor, 5-inch 480 x 854 VN display, and WiFi, Bluetooth, and 3G HSPA+ connectivity support.
O+ 8.91's innards combine to give it a Quadrant Standard score of 3,147 and Antutu Benchmark Test score of 10,939. These decent results are well-reflected in the largely acceptable touch feedback, gaming performance, and video playing capabilities of the device. So far, I haven't experienced lags using the handset but the overall experience that it delivers is hardly comparable to what my Quad Core powered O+ 8.15 and O+ 8.16 give me, which is - of course - very understandable.
For a smartphone with SRP of just Php 6,995, O+ 8.91 gives you far, far more value than the amount of money that you shell out for it. It's not perfect - the screen could be more crisp, the cameras could be better - but taking into account its attractive design, the patented Air Shuffle technology (allowing you to take photos, browse images, and play music tracks simply by waving your hand in front of the display) that's unique to O+ handsets, and the peace of mind that its big battery gives you, I'd say O+ 8.91 could very well be one of the phones to beat in its price echelon.
