Sony Xperia Z1 Mini Specs, Price, Release Date, Features : Should Sony Bring this Japan-Only Release Here?
Looking at and studying the technical specifications of Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and HTC One Mini, it would be easy to conclude (and expect) that the mini version of any flagship smartphone is not just smaller than the original but is also far less powerful.
If so, Sony Xperia Z1 Mini - a Japan-only release as of the moment - is absolutely out of the ordinary and is definitely a welcomed surprise.
Sure, staying true to its name, it is smaller (albeit a tad thicker) than the best-selling Sony Xperia Z1 (127 x 64.9 x 9.4 mm versus 144 x 74 x 8.5 mm) but amazingly, it retains all the key selling points of its more expensive sibling -- apart from the 5-inch Full HD Triluminos display, of course.
Sony Xperia Z1 - replete with a 4.3 inch HD TFT display - has the same Omnibalance scratch-resistant and shatter-proof DragonTrail-Glass-Aluminum-Gorilla-Glass-3-sandwich design identity and even has similar innards and multimedia features. The handset runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system skinned by the Japanese company's Xperia user interface (known for its darker hues) with its powerhouse Quad Core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU based Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and efficiently handles multitasking with 2GB of RAM. Users also get the same 20.7 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash and the award-winning G-Lens, 2 MP front cam, 16 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card slot, Full HD 30fps video recorder, IP55 and IP57 certification for being dust-and-water-proof, and LTE connectivity support. Sony Xperia Z1 Mini has a smaller non-removable 2,300 mAh Li-Ion battery pack versus 3,000 mAh on the flagship release but it's been reported that the former actually delivers longer uptime because of its less power-hungry display.
By crafting Sony Xperia Z1 Mini this way, Sony showed everyone that it is possible to create a Mini version of a flagship handset that simply offers all the strengths of the original in a more pocketable and handy package -- one that should be more attractive to people who don't like carrying all too big phones.
Sony Xperia Z1 Mini currently retails for 70668 Yen in Japan (or around Php 29,800 with current conversion), which is a tad hefty. Then again, when you factor in the handset's gorgeous design language and top-notch technical specifications, I believe its price tag is just right. Do you think that - just like Sony Xperia Z1 - the Mini version would do well in the Philippines? Should Sony consider bringing the handset here?
