MediaTek MT6732 and MT6752 64-Bit Octa-Core Chipsets with LTE Support Arriving This Year : Why Filipinos Should Be Excited
Cherry Mobile Titan, MyPhone A919 Duo, Starmobile Knight, O+ 8.15, THL W300 : These are some of the best-selling smartphones in the Philippines in the past couple of years -- and what's common about them is that they are all powered by chipsets made by Taiwanese electronics giant MediaTek.
I believe that what made these devices very attractive to Filipinos is that they offered great value for money or the most bang for the buck. Never mind the design, screen size or the camera (which are all quite cool), the great gaming and overall mobile experience that these handsets delivered rivaled if not altogether beat that of far more expensive smartphones by bigger multinational brands -- and that's all because of their low-cost yet robust MediaTek SoCs.
In 2012 and 2013, dual core MT6577 and quad core MT6589 chips powered some of the most successful handset releases by local brands and international companies like O+, THL, and even Sony. And during the start of this year, we saw THL Monkey King 2, Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2, and Starmobile Diamond X1, which are all powered by MediaTek's new powerhouse, first True Octa Core SoC, the MT6592. You'd think the Taiwanese company would stop there but apparently, that's the farthest from the plan. In fact, MediaTek is raising the bar higher by announcing two new even more powerful chipsets -- and I think Filipinos should be excited because we'll definitely get smartphones running on these duo within this year or early in 2015.
According to MediaTek, the MT6732 delivers a next-generation computing system consisting of a coherent 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 cluster and Mali-T760 GPU – providing next-level 64-bit mobile computing and LTE for the rising Super-mid Market, consisting of billions of consumers ready to adopt smart devices with premium features at mainstream prices – many for the very first time. The MT6732 platform delivers:
Next-Generation 64-bit Mobile Computing System
The more high-end MT6752 deploys eight 2.0GHz ARM Cortex 53 CPUs and a Mali-T760 GPU – the next-level 64-bit mobile computing and LTE. It is pin compatible with the previously announced quad-core MT6732 – shortening the product development cycle.
The solution is the latest in a series of announcements MediaTek has made to give consumers in the Super-mid market high performing smartphones at an affordable price.
The MT6752 platform delivers:
Advanced Multimedia Features
64-bit? What's so hot about it? Simply put, 64-bit is a desktop-class chipset architecture that makes your mobile experience faster and better than ever, from launching apps and editing photos to playing graphics-intensive games - previously only possible on PCs and gaming consoles - all while delivering great battery life.
Octa Core ARM Cortex 53? What makes this CPU special? The Cortex A53 delivers 64-bit capability and significantly increases performance over ARM Cortex A7, in a footprint suited for low-cost applications like entry level smartphones. It is smaller and has lower power consumption than the ARM Cortex A9 processor yet delivers higher performance on many of the key benchmarks.
TP Thoughts: TP Friends, I totally agree with Mr. Jeffrey Ju. I think MediaTek chipsets have really helped democratize smartphone technology. Because of the company's low cost SoCs, relatively smaller handset manufacturers from China and India were able to come up with really affordable yet capable devices previously only available in the midrange and high-end brackets of bigger multinational smartphone companies' product line-up. Thanks to MediaTek, now, even students and Pinoy consumers who are on a tight budget can finally enjoy the full benefits of a powerhouse Android smartphone.
