Sony Xperia M2 Philippines Price Php 14,190, Complete Specs, Release Date, Actual Unit Photos, Hands-On Video
I think the coolest thing about the midrange release Sony Xperia M2, which is arriving in the Philippines this coming May, is that it has the same premium look and feel as the Japanese company's flagship releases Sony Xperia Z1 and Z2 but it only costs around a third of the price of those high-end smartphones. And it totally doesn't hurt that it also supports LTE connectivity and is compatible with the LTE bands of both Globe Telecom and Smart Communications.
Launched in the Philippines yesterday - alongside Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia E, Sony Xperia T2 Ultra, Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, and Sony SmartBand - via an exclusive media event at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City which I attended, Sony Xperia M2 - according to the company - showcases high quality technology at an affordable price. Sony’s OmniBalance design as found on Sony’s premium smartphone range, a fast Quad Core processor, and a large qHD display, combine to create brilliant all-round performance, whilst the unique Xperia camera, music and movie apps offer stunning entertainment experiences -- as expected from a smartphone by a legendary multimedia company.
Using the expertise and technology of Sony’s CyberShot cameras, Sony Xperia M2 is ideal for capturing your favourite moments - regardless of the lighting condition. The handset comes replete with an 8 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash, Exmor RS sensor for mobile comes, and is armed with Autoscene Recognition and HDR.
For even more fun, unique Xperia camera apps such as Social live, Timeshift burst and Picture Effect help users to get the most out of Xperia M2’s camera, which can be launched simply by clicking on the phone's dedicated camera hardware button -- a rarity in Android phones from the start.
Quoting Sony, "To offer a unique and seamless experience direct from the camera’s viewfinder, Sony is also working with third party developers to offer a growing range of new Xperia camera apps. To download more Xperia camera apps such as Vine, V1 Sports and FX Guru, simply go into your camera viewfinder and then click on ‘+Apps’ to see all the latest apps available on Sony Select to enhance your smartphone experience."
As for the other specs, Sony Xperia M2 sports a crisp and brilliant 4.8 inch qHD TFT display, a Full HD 1080p video recorder, and a 0.3 MegaPixel front facing cam. The handset runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system skinned by Xperia UI with its Quad Core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A7 CPU and Adreno 305 GPU based Qualcomm MSM8926 Snapdragon 400 chipset, handles multitasking with 1 GB of RAM, and has 8 GB of internal storage, which users can easily expand via microSD card slot supporting up to 32 GB. Sony Xperia M2 is powered by a Non-removable Li-Ion 2,300 mAh battery pack with Sony's STAMINA Mode 3.0, which is said to be capable of delivering 633 Hours of Standby, 14 Hours 36 Minutes of Talk Time, and 58 Hours 25 Minutes of Music Play. Overall, I think this set of specifications should be more than enough for a lot of casual users.
Having played with the handset, I'm thoroughly impressed with how great it looks and how solid it feels in the hand -- especially when you think about how affordable it is. Sure, it doesn't have the aluminum frame and real metal accents of my Sony Xperia Z1 but Sony Xperia M2 is definitely right up there in terms of how visually arresting the device is.
TP Friends, I was able to capture the official introduction of Sony Xperia M2 in the Philippines made by Mr. Vincent Dela Cruz, Assistant Manager for Mobile Communications of Sony Philippines, on video. This clip that recorded during the event also shows a quick hands-on of the affordable handset where you can see its sleek design and smooth touch response.
So how much does it cost exactly? The official suggested retail price of Sony Xperia M2 in the Philippines is just Php 14,190, which I believe is already very low for a device of its calibre! Like Sony Xperia Z1 and Z2, it is available only in three colors, namely, Black, Purple, and White. Again, TP Friends, this handset will land here two months from now so kindly stay tuned for updates.
