Samsung Galaxy S5 Active Price, Release Date, Complete Specs, Features : IP67 and MIL-STD-810G Certification, Explained!
The regular Samsung Galaxy S5 is already IP67 Certified, which means that it is protected against ingress of dust and water in harmful levels when the device is submerged in up to 1 meter of liquid for up to 30 minutes.
That's already a reassuring certification but if you think it's not enough and you want it even more rugged, then Samsung Galaxy S5 Active could be the right flagship variant for you.
Looking like it dons a pre-installed shock-proof OtterBox case and available in borderline-intimidating military camo green color, Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is one of the very few handsets - along with Motorola Titanium and Samsung Rugby Pro LTE - that's MIL-STD-810G Certified!
Having such military-grade certification means that the device is protected against Low Pressure (Altitude), High Temperature, Low Temperature, Temperature Shock, Contamination by Fluids, Solar Radiation (Sunshine), Rain, Humidity, Fungus, Salt Fog, Sand and Dust, Explosive Atmosphere, Immersion, Acceleration, Vibration, Acoustic Noise, Shock, Pyroshock, Acidic Atmosphere, Gunfire Shock, Icing/Freezing Rain, Ballistic Shock, Vibro-Acoustic/Temperature, Freeze / Thaw, Time Waveform Replication, Rail Impact, Multi-Exciter, and Mechanical Vibrations of Shipboard Equipment. Simply put, it means that this phone is really, really tough and is ideal for those who live extreme.
Design-wise, it looks almost nothing like the regular SGS5; No ridged metallic rim, no band-aid back cover. Even the buttons on the side look different.
Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has just been announced in the United States as a bundled handset with the AT&T's LTE plans. It is expected to retail in other territories within June or July 2014 donning official suggested retail price of around $715 or Php 31,000 with current conversion and before taxes. As for the Philippines, well, we got its predecessor - Samsung Galaxy S4 - last year so I guess we should also get this one. I'm personally expecting to see Samsung Galaxy S5 Active in store shelves across the country come Q3 2014.

In terms of features, one obvious omission coming from the regular flagship is the finger scanner below the display. Nope, you can't unlock the phone with a finger swipe; I don't mind, really. Also, in lieu of capacitive buttons for the Menu and Back keys, you will get these physical ones with tactile feedback on the SGS5Active.
The back plate has studs in all four corners giving the impression that it's been bolted in place but really, those are just design accents (the same as the kevlar-like imprint giving it a metallic look) as the cover is actually removable.
Apart from the finger scanner, Samsung Galaxy S5 Active pretty much retains all the technical specifications and features of the regular flagship, including the heart rate monitor at the back, the 16 MegaPixel camera ISOCELL sensor and HDR setting, Ultra HD video recorder, Samsung Knox, and S Health. The rugged handset also runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system skinned by the newest version of the Korean Giant's TouchWiz User Interface with a Quad Core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 and Adreno 330 based Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 chipset. All other innards and specs remain the same and they detailed in our table table.
