Apple iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 with Retina Display Arriving in September Alongside iPhone 6?
'Supposed Apple insiders' have been very accurate with their predictions and 'disclosures' within the past couple of years -- so I'm pretty much inclined to believe these recently leaked 'analyst information' about the upcoming iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 with Retina Display.
The natural follow-up to last year's moderately successful Apple iPad Air, the iPad Air 2 is said to don largely the same design language and construction of its predecessor. Users will get the same ultra-thin form factor and flat aluminum back plate that curves sharply on the sides. The same thing can be said about the iPad Mini 3 with Retina Display, which is believed to look almost just like the well-received 2013 release.
According to insiders, apart from running the new iOS 8 operating system right out of the box, Apple's 2014 tablets - or at least just the iPad Air 2 - will come with a Touch ID sensor similar to what on the Apple iPhone 5S. As I've shared before, the Touch ID uses a laser cut sapphire crystal, together with the capacitive touch sensor, to take a high-resolution image of your fingerprint and intelligently analyze it to provide accurate readings from any angle. It recognizes the touch of a finger so the sensor is only activated when needed, preserving battery life. This innovation from Apple can be used as a secure and convenient way to unlock your device or to approve purchases from the iTunes Store, App Store or iBooks Store instead of always having to type the password to your Apple ID.
As for the technical specifications, 'analysts' are saying that the new slates will be powered by the energy-efficient and powerful Apple A8 chipset and will have an improved 1.5 MegaPixel front-facing cam for video calls and selfies. The screen size and resolution as well as the connectivity options of both devices, on the other hand, are believed to be just the same as that of their predecessors.
So when exactly are these products arriving? Many Apple fans are saying that the Cupertino company will most likely hold just one major event in September for the formal unveiling of all its mobile devices this year, which include two versions of the new generation iPhone (i.e., the regular iPhone 6 and what some are calling the 'iPhone Air' phablet), the iPad Air 2, the iPad Mini 3, and the re-imagined 6th Generation iPod Touch. Exciting, eh?
