Launched in the Philippines last night via a media event at Hyve Bar in Taguig City, Asus ZenFone 4 is the most affordable model in the Taiwanese company's 2014 line-up of Android smartphones.
While not really a heavy weight in terms of technical specifications and features, Asus ZenFone 4 gives Pinoy Android fans who are on a tight budget an opportunity to experience what Asus has to offer in this product category.
Looks-wise, the handset flaunts a very simple design identity replete with a polycarbonate back plate with matte finish, glossy plastic accent running down the sides and below the display, and metallic power button and volume rocker.
For only Php 3,995, Asus fans can already this phone, which features a 4-inch WVGA TFT display, 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera without LED flash, VGA front cam, and Full HD recorder.
But what's particularly special about this release is its Dual Core 1.2 GHz PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU based Intel Atom Z2520 chipset with Hyperthreading. According to Intel, Hyperthreading technology uses processor resources more efficiently, enabling multiple threads to run on each core. As a performance feature, it also increases processor output and improving overall performance on threaded software.
The handset utilizes this chip to run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system that's heavily skinned by the company's Zen user interface. Quoting Asus, "The ZenUI was built to be functional first and foremost, but it also had to have elegance and beauty. It's simple and intuitive, but also smart as it helps you to keep track of your life. The ASUS ZenUI user experience is based on the concept of design thinking: technology built to match your needs. Every time you use the phone, you feel that you are at the center of everything. It's designed just for you."

The phone's microUSB port is located on its left side -- unlike in most smartphones where it's found on either poles. As I've shared, I prefer seeing this port at the rear so the wires wouldn't be in the way should I want the use the phone while charging.
