MyPhone Rio LTE is The Cheapest LTE Smartphone in the Philippines
As of today, August 13, 2014, the limited edition LTE-version of the best-selling MyPhone Agua Rio is the most affordable LTE smartphone that you can find anywhere in the Philippines.
Donning an SRP of only Php 6,499, Dual SIM Dual Standby MyPhone Rio LTE is equipped with a 4.5-inch FWVGA IPS display, 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 2 MegaPixel front cam, HD video recorder, Motion, Proximity, and Light Sensor set, A-GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth support, and a removable 1,700 mAh battery pack.
As for the innards, the handset runs Android 4.4 KitKat right out of the box with its 1.3GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A7 and Mali-400MP2 GPU based MediaTek MT6582M chipset, handles multitasking with 1 GB of RAM, and has 4 GB of internal storage that can be beefed up using the phone's microSD card slot supporting up to 32 GB.
Overall, the phone's features and internal specifications - I would say - are rather decent for device in its price range.
But the real highlight of this release is obviously its LTE connectivity support. As I've explained on TechPinas, LTE or Long Term Evolution - currently being offered by Smart Communications and Globe Telecom - is the latest generation in mobile broadband standards. Superseding 3G, LTE is capable of delivering speeds of up to 100Mbps (or 42 Mbps in the Philippines) making it the fastest mobile connection available anywhere in the world.
I was told that MyPhone Rio LTE supports the LTE bands of both Globe and Smart so the handset could really provide a great opportunity for entry-level consumers to finally experience of such connection albeit the LTE zones in the Philippines are still limited. Nonetheless, Smart Communications is always trying to improve their facilities and strengthen their LTE network and services across the country so I guess that should give you another reason to check out this release.
