Samsung Galaxy Alpha Philippines Price and Release Date Guesstimate, Full Specs, Antutu Benchmark Score
After months of rumors and speculations - some had turned out accurate but most had not - Samsung Galaxy Alpha is finally official.
A first of its kind from the Korean Giant, this high-end release could be described as compact version of the Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship with a real metal frame and a more powerful processor but having a smaller and lower resolution display and lacking a microSD card expansion slot.
Looking like a love child of the Apple iPhone 5S and Xiaomi Mi4, Samsung Galaxy Alpha's design identity is greatly defined by its rather thick aluminum side frame and removable plastic back plate.
According to Mr. JK Shin - CEO and Head of IT and Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics, the SGAlpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumer market. With an entirely new appearance, this new model focuses on both aesthetics and functionality by combining a sleek metal frame and lightweight design with the same powerful internal specifications and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy smartphone.
Features-wise, the handset is equipped with a 4.7-inch HD SuperAMOLED display, a 12 MegaPixel autofocus camera with ISOCELL sensor and LED flash, 2.1 MegaPixel front cam, 4K video recorder, LTE connectivity support, Heart Rate Monitor, Finger Scanner, and a non-removable 1,860 mAh Li-Ion battery pack. In this department, it's clear that Samsung Galaxy S5 and even the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are superior to the Alpha.
But what makes this release truly special - apart from its shell, that is - are its internal specifications. The handset runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat heavily skinned by the company's TouchWiz interface with its Octa Core 1.8 GHz ARM Cortex A15 + 1.3 GHz ARM Cortex A7 CPU and Mali-T628 MP6 GPU based Exynos 5430 chipset, which is said to be superior to Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 that runs Samsung Galaxy S5. This powerhouse 20nm SoC from Samsung is complemented 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM. Sadly, the device doesn't have a microSD card slot for expanding the storage, which will obviously be a major compromise for consumers who will opt to get this metal-clad model over SGS5.
Samsung Mobile Philippines has yet to disclose the availability of Samsung Galaxy Alpha but I believe it should land here later this Q3 if not early Q4 this year. In Europe and in other territories, the official suggested retail price of the handset is 599 Euros so I guess it's price tag in the Philippines should be in the area of Php 35,000 to Php 36,000.

The combination of these stellar internal specifications give the handset an Antutu Benchmark Score in the area of 38,248, which is noticeably higher than that of Samsung Galaxy S5. (Photo by CULeaks)
