Cherry Mobile Excalibur Price Php 6,999, Specs, Unboxing, Key Features
It appears local electronics giant Cherry Mobile is absolutely keen on taking the old saying 'Never rest on your laurels' to a whole new level.
As if the company didn't already have more than a handful of best-sellers this year, CM has just surprised its fans and Pinoy tech bloggers by quietly releasing its newest strong contender in the midrange Android smartphone echelon.
Currently selling at all Cherry Mobile concept stores, kiosks, and retail partners nationwide for only Php 6,999, Cherry Mobile Excalibur is a sleek Octa Core handset with a camera that can deliver clear and crisp images even in low light conditions.
Looks wise, Cherry Mobile Excalibur flaunts a gorgeous glass-metal-glass design identity reminiscent of what we see on flagship-level Xperia handsets albeit lacking a water-proof build. Both the front and back panels of the device feature Corning Gorilla Glass, which is scratch-resistant, while the frame in between is made of Magnesium alloy.
In terms of technical specifications, Excalibur - named after the mythical sword of King Arthur from Welsh legends - is equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS display, 1.4 GHz Octa Core ARM Cortex A7 and Mali 450 MP4 GPU based MediaTek MT6592M chipset running Android 4.4 KitKat OS, 5 MegaPixel front cam, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of expandable storage, Dual SIM Dual Standby capability, 3G HPSA+ support, and a 1,920 mAh battery pack.
Its Octa Core processor, beautiful design, and stellar construction aside, for me, what makes Cherry Mobile Excalibur a stand-out in its price bracket would have to be its 8 MegaPixel main camera, which comes replete with sensor made by Sony, a relatively large F2.0 aperture, AR coating blue lens glass, and LED flash. All of these imaging features in the camera module allow this phone to deliver decent to great images regardless of the lighting condition.
On top of all that, Excalibur supports Cherry Mobile's new Smart Wake touch gestures, which you can now use when listening to MP3 files on the phone. Simply double tap on the inactive display to wake the screen, draw up to unlock the device, draw down to pause a music track, draw right to jump to the next song, and draw left to go to the previous song.
There are a number of cool Octa Core smartphones that you can choose from within Excalibur's midrange price category - including Cherry Mobile Pulse, MyPhone Agua Infinity Lite, SKK Phoenix X1, and THL W200s, among others. But if you're looking for one that has a glass-and-metal shell and a camera that you can rely on, I guess the choice is clear.
