Meizu MX4 Extensive Demo, Scratch Test, Camera Features, Antutu Benchmark Score Comparison with Other Flagship Smartphones
Mr. Adrian Lim, IT Director of Novo7Tech - the official distributor of THL, Zopo, and Meizu smartphones in the Philippines, is one of my favorite Pinoy tech executives to interview. Why, you ask? Well, he's very animated, fun, and is simply brimming with life and energy. He's quite a story teller too.
I guess our personalities match in that sense.
Last week, Sir Chris, Sir Oliver, and Sir Adrian of Novo7Tech invited me over for dinner and a casual 'catch-up' at Lucky Chinatown Mall, which is already near my house in Tondo.
It's always a joy to have a chat with the team and to learn about their future plans for their thriving business so I immediately said 'yes' to their invite. Also, everytime I meet them, I take the opportunity to talk to Sir Adrian in front of the camera about their devices and get exclusive information straight from Novo7Tech that I can share with all of my readers -- so it's always all good!
After having our fill of good food and great chat, Sir Adrian and I went to their flagship store located at the mall's third level where we created a new interview clip for you guys; As you know, we've already had many recorded tech conversations in the past -- and I really want to thank him as well as the entire Novo7Tech family for the trust.
My latest interview with Sir Adrian is about their most awaited handset this year, the Meizu MX4.
Like what I've shared previously on TP, it's only just recently that Novo7Tech became the official distributor of Meizu handsets in the country -- and they are now letting even more Pinoy consumers know of this landmark partnership by bringing in the Chinese company's powerhouse 2014 flagship smartphone.
For those who haven't seen my initial feature about this device, Meizu MX4 is - as its very name suggests - the natural follow-up to the MX3, which in itself is a great device. Measuring just 8.9 millimeters at its thickest point and flaunting a real metal frame, Meizu MX4 is equipped with a 5.36-inch 1152 x 1920 pixels IPS display (slightly wider than the 1080 x 1920 pixels screens we find on most smartphones these days) underneath scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 3, a 20.7 MegaPixel autofocus camera with Sony IMX 220 lens, Two Tone Flash and Image Stabilization, a 4K video recorder, and a rather hefty 3,100 mAh Li-Ion battery pack.
It looks great on the outside, but it's what's inside that makes the Meizu MX4 a true beast of a release. This handset is one of the first devices to be powered by MediaTek's new Octa Core chipset with Big Little Technology, the MT6595 which incorporates a Quad Core 2.2 GHz ARM Cortex A17 CPU plus Quad Core 1.7 GHz Cortex ARM A7 CPU and PowerVR H6200MP4 GPU, and supports LTE connectivity. This SoC - complemented, in this case, by the device's 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of ROM - is believed to be able to match if not altogether surpass the performance of more expensive chipsets like Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (and perhaps even Snapdragon 805) as reflected in the MX4's ultra-high Antutu Benchmark Score.
In our latest interview video, Sir Adrian showed me MX4's design and described the process that Meizu employed in creating a smartphone that has a big display yet doesn't have an all too large footprint.
He also talked about the flagship handset's key features, including the display, supported LTE bands, and the enhancements implemented on the latest version of the Flyme interface that users can enjoy on the Meizu MX4. Likewise, he gave me a fun demonstration of the device's main 20.7 MegaPixel camera with Sony ExmorRS IMX 220 sensor and the 2 MP front cam with Beauty Mode.
Of course, in true TechPinas fashion, we didn't forget to do our TP Unforgiving Scratch Test using Sir Adrian's ever reliable Damascus Blade, which is now a mainstay in our interviews. But don't take my word for it! Watch the entire video:
Meizu MX4 is slated to be officially launched in the Philippines via an exclusive media event happening on October 30, 2014. The handset will be available at all Novo7Tech stores as well as Kimstore starting around the first or second week of November. The 16 GB variant will sell for only Php 14,990, which - as I've said - is already very affordable for a smartphone of this stunning caliber. At that price, I tell you, Meizu MX4 is already a steal!
Update as of 4:08 PM, October 11, 2014: I've just been informed by Sir Oliver of Novo7Tech that the media launch of Meizu MX4 has been moved to November 20, 2014 -- which means that the device could arrive in the Philippines a bit later than expected. Here's to hoping it's just by a few days.

As per initial testing, Meizu MX4 got an Antutu Benchmark Score of 51,406! The phone is so powerful, even Antutu calls it a "Monster".
Just to compare, THL T5000 powered by a 2 GHz Octa Core MT6592 chip got a score of 31,097 when Novo7Tech ran the same test on the phone, Xiaomi Mi3 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 scored 38,525, Samsung Galaxy Note 3 also with Snapdragon 800 got 41,257, and Oppo Find 7a with Qualcomm Snapgradon 801 got an Antutu Benchmark Score of 44,794.
