O+ 8.17 Price, Specs, Unboxing, Antutu Score, Features : New Hexa Core Flagship Smartphone
Serving as the natural follow-up to the best-selling and very popular O+ 8.15 and O+ 8.16 flagship releases of the American handset company in the Philippines last year, the recently launched O+ 8.17 truly has a lot to live up to.
Thankfully, in terms of both looks and raw power, it's clear that O+ USA's latest high-end release can stand shoulder to shoulder with its stellar predecessors and not feel a bit shy.
Putting the limited edition O+ Air Octa Core release (which has already become one of the best-selling smartphones of 2014 in the Philippines) in a separate category, O+ 8.17 comes with the best technical specifications and features out of all handsets by the US-based company this year.
As you can see in the photos above, O+ 8.17 ships inside O+'s iconic white-and-red box, which we've also seen on previous flagship releases starting from beautiful and durable O+ 8.12.
Before I show you more of the smartphone, let's do a quick unboxing to check which accessories and peripherals are included in the package.
Peace to Selfie - Simply do the peace sign in front of the camera and it will automatically take your photo without you having to click on the shutter button.
Air Shuffle - A patented O+ innovation, it allows you take photos, browse images in your gallery, and play music files simply by waving your hand in front of the phone's display
Air Share - A cloud-storage service that lets your quickly and conveniently upload, store, and share files with your friends.
Encrypted Messages - Keep important or secret messages in your SMS inbox in a separate password-protected folder, away from prying eyes!
Visitor Mode - Allows you to instantly hide your contacts, messages, photos, and even some applications before you let your friends play with your smartphone.
Looks-wise, O+ 8.17 comes with a very elegant design identity highlighted by a gorgeous glass face reminiscent of O+ Air, a glossy back plate, and eye-catching metallic rim lining its sides, which give the handset an air of luxury and corporate sophistication.
Under the hood, O+ 8.17 runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system with its 1.5 GHz Hexa Core ARM Cortex A7 and Mali 450 GPU based MediaTek MT6591 chipset. Apart from the far more expensiveSamsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo, O+ 8.17 is the only Hexa Core Android smartphone that's officially available in the Philippines as of writing.
O+ 8.17, which sells for only Php 10,995, is now available at all O+ Concept Stores, Kiosks, and partner retail outlets nationwide. I highly recommend it to those who are looking for an Android smartphone that combines head-turning design, powerhouse set of internal specifications, and a slew of unique software innovations and experiences. Check it out, TP Friends!

Inside the box, the unit is joined by the user manual, service warranty card, travel charger, the 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery pack, microUSB to USB cable, free microSD card, and earphones.
This sticker serves a dual purpose: First, it protects the handset's display and glass touchscreen during shipment. And second, it shows you all of the phone's key specifications and features in just one glance.
Like other high-end smartphones by O+ USA, O+ 8.17 ships with free limited edition Sennheiser earphones. This pair is similar to what came with my O+ Air, O+ Imagine, and O+ Fab Elite -- and I'd say its sound quality is largely the same as what you'll get from the new Apple Earpods.
O+ USA generously included a free 8GB Sandisk microSD card slot in the package -- providing instant additional storage space!
The travel charger has folding metal prongs so you don't have to worry about them scratching your other gadgets when you put them together inside your bag.
At the bottom of the box, you will find a list of the phone's complete technical specifications as well as the unique O+ innovations that it features, including the following:
The device flaunts a 5-inch 1280 x 720 pixels HD IPS OGS display that looks bright, crisp and brilliant regardless of the viewing angle.
Looks-wise, O+ 8.17 comes with a very elegant design identity highlighted by a gorgeous glass face reminiscent of O+ Air, a glossy back plate, and eye-catching metallic rim lining its sides, which give the handset an air of luxury and corporate sophistication.
The loud speaker, Full HD video recorder, and 8 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash and BSI sensor are - of course - located at the back. This shooter is complemented by a 2 MegaPixel front-facing cam that also has backside-illuminated sensor for improved low light performance.
The volume rocker is located on the left side of the phone.
And you'll find the power button on the right side; It's placed a bit closer to the top panel, though, compared to that of O+ Air, which is almost at the middle.
Paired with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of ROM, MT6591 SoC gives the O+ 8.17 an Antutu Benchmark Score in the area of 25,686, which is actually quite close to that of O+ Air running on a 1.7 GHz Octa Core MediaTek MT6592 chip.
