Cherry Mobile One Demo by Google Student Ambassador
With price tag of only Php 3,999 and coming bundled with affordable Sun Plan 399 and Smart All-In Plan 500, Cherry Mobile One is obviously ideal for young consumers - including students and yuppies - who may be on a tight budget but are always on the look out for the best gadgets that their money can get.
That's the reason why I felt delighted when Google Student Ambassador from Far Eastern University (FEU) Nathaniel Castro offered to give me a quick demo of the smartphone following the official launch of Android One in the Philippines last February 17, 2015 at Whitespace in Makati City.
I told Nathaniel, "I'm sure guys and girls your age who are looking for cool but affordable Android smartphone to start the year would be happy to see this demo video from you. I mean, you're the kind of consumer who would be most inclined to get this release. So thanks for doing this."
Here's the exclusive clip, TP Friends:
As one of the two initial Android One phones to be launched in the Philippines, what's particularly special about Cherry Mobile One is that it ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop (with vanilla interface) right out of the box and it will always be at the forefront of firmware upgrades coming straight from Google.
In terms of technical specifications, as I've said in our Cherry Mobile One Initial Impressions post, there are a handful of similarly priced smartphones from Cherry Mobile (like Flare 3 and S3) and other brands that are better than CM1.
Some of the key specs of this release include the 4.5 inch FWVGA IPS display, 5 MegaPixel autofocus main camera with LED flash, 2 MP front cam for selfies (which I find to be quite good in well-lit conditions), 1,780 mAh battery pack, microSD card expansion slot, Dual SIM Dual Standby capability, and 3G HSPA+ support. As for the innards, the handset is powered by a 1.3 GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A7 and Mali 400 based MediaTek MT6582 chipset, has 1GB of RAM, and comes with 8GB of ROM.
The area where this model shines the most - and trumps all others - is clearly when it comes to software. So if you're the type of user who wants to always be the first to get and enjoy the latest Android features from Google, you might want to include CM1 in your of pocket-friendly handsets to check out this year.
