Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Specs, Leaked! Teaser Photo, Out!
Rumor has it that Samsung Mobile will be announcing two versions of its 2015 flagship smartphone at MWC 2015 in Barcelona this coming March 1, 2015. One will have a typical 'flat' full touchscreen display similar to that of Samsung Galaxy S5 and the other - already being called Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge - will have a screen that curves down both sides for additional display space just like the one that's on Samsung Galaxy Note Edge.
Well, today, wireless network operator T-Mobile USA pretty much confirmed the existence of the 2015 Samsung flagship handset with curved display by posting this teaser poster on its corporate website. Headlined 'Six Appeal' (a play on 'sex appeal', obviously), the image shows the smartphone's left right panel and gives a hint of the device's real metal back plate and power button as well as the touchscreen that extends down the side. Note that Samsung itself hasn't confirmed or denied the veracity of the photo.
Now, in terms of specs, 'insiders' say that Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge will sport a 5.1-inch Quad HD 2560 x 1440 pixels curved SuperAMOLED panel, 20.1 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 5 MegaPixel front cam, 4K video recorder with Optical Image Stabilization, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and Exynos 7420 chipset options, Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system with the latest version of TouchWiz interface, 32/64/128GB internal storage options, microSDHC card memory expansion slot supporting up to 128GB, and 4G LTE mobile connectivity support.
As for its price, we can expect this variant to be much more expensive than the regular model. Last year, Samsung Galaxy S5 entered the Philippines with official suggested retail price of around Php 35,000 and I'm expecting its follow-up to cost just about the same. On the other hand, the Edge variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is around Php 5,000 pricier than the one with the regular display. These things considered, I'm expecting Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge to don a price tag in the area of Php 39,000 to Php 40,000 (around $880 USD) if and when it gets released locally.
Update: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Actual Photos, Leaked!
Just two days before the opening of Mobile World Congress 2015 - where these two smartphones are expected to be announced - an XDA forum member named graaler uploaded these images of what appears to be the actual Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge beside the regular SGS6 with flat display. If we were to believe these shots, it looks like the two versions of the flagship will - as expected - flaunt the same glass-metal-glass sandwich design language akin to that of the Xiaomi Mi4 as well as Sony Xperia flagship releases within the past three years.
