Android 5.0 Lollipop Upgrade for Sony Xperia Z1, Z2, Z3, and All Z Series Smartphones, Confirmed
Great news for all fellow Sony Xperia Z-series smartphone owners! The legendary Japanese electronics company has just confirmed that they indeed intend to upgrade all of the previous flagship releases starting from Sony Xperia Z all the way to Z3 to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Sony made the confirmation via their official Twitter account for the Xperia smartphone line when they responded to inquiries by Sony handset owners regarding the status of Lollipop update for their devices.
Sadly, in line with recent changes in its business strategy, Sony will no longer update all E, C, T, and M series Xperia handsets to the latest version of the Android operating system. Nonetheless, the company will continue to provide after-sales support for (and perhaps, even send updates to further improve the software stability of) all of these phone models.

It's no secret to all of you that I'm a big, big Sony fan and it pains me to hear that they are starting to 'mellow down' their plans for the Xperia line. That in mind and given all the recent developments in the company's strategy, I think this gesture by Sony to update all their flagship models to the latest Android version is laudable and reflects well on the company's integrity and concern for consumers. As a fan, I'm deeply rooting for Sony and I will continue to support them in their future ventures in the mobile industry.
Sony Xperia Z, Z1, Z2, Z3, Z Ultra, Z1 Compact, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact will all get the official Android 5.0 Lollipop software upgrade with Xperia UI skin from the company. No word yet on the exact date when the Sony plans to start sending the update globally.
