O+ 360 HD Quick Review : Six Things I Love About The Smartphone, Sample Selfie Shots and Main Camera Captures
I've been using O+ 360 HD as one of my daily smartphones for more than a month now and if there's anything I can tell you about this handset, it's that it is definitely one of the best midrange Android smartphones that you can purchase this 2015. Let me give you six solid reasons why.
1. It bears all of the unique and useful O+ innovations that are present on previous flagship-level releases by the company. O+ 360 HD features the popular Air Shuffle technology that lets you take photos and browse images (among others) simply by waving your hand on top of the display. It also has O+ Doodle Control, which allows you to open applications simply by writing characters on the phone's display even if it's turned off. And of course, you get 10 GB of free cloud storage courtesy of O+ Air Share, an app for sharing and accessing files across multiple devices.
2. O+ 360 HD looks great. It really does. I mean, just look at these in the flesh photos of the smartphone. I think, if the iPhone 6 had a polycarbonate shell instead of aluminum, it would look a lot like this midrange model. I like that it's very thin yet it has a reassuring heft. The rounded sides and corners make the phone a joy to have in the hand.
3. The large display brings details, colors, and images to life. O+ 360 HD sports a 5-inch high-definition IPS screen that looks great regardless of the viewing angle. The phone is one of the most affordable models in O+'s 2015 line-up to come with this size and type of display. I invite you to see it for yourself and to give the phone a test run at any O+ USA concept store or kiosk near you.
3. O+ 360 Touch Technology: The one feature that makes it unique. There's this patch on the phone's back cover that's touch-sensitive like a laptop's touchpad and according to O+, you can use this to navigate the handset's homescreen and app drawer as well as some applications like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, using just one hand. I find it particularly useful, though, when taking selfies using either the front or main cam. When you're using the camera app, just place your finger on the patch for second then release to take a shot.
4. The 8 MegaPixel autofocus main camera performs well. It focuses on subjects fast and it captures vivid colors and details. I love using it to take food shots as it shines in snapping images up close.
But don't take my word for it. Here are some photos that I took using O+ 360 HD -- with automatic settings and all without flash.
5. O+ 360 HD's front-facing soft LED flash helps the phone deliver great selfies even in low light conditions. The 5 MegaPixel front-cam takes crisp and clear selfies when there's enough ambient light but the LED flash (which is a rarity in this price category) really boosts its performance when snapping self-portraits indoors.
6. Decent internal hardware that provide a good gaming and overall touch experience. O+ 360 HD runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system with its Quad Core 1.3 GHz ARM Cortex A7 and Mali 400 based MediaTek MT6582 processor, handles multitasking with 1 GB of RAM, and comes with 8 GB of ROM that you can beef up using the microSD card supporting up to 32GB or by connecting a USB storage device via USB-OTG. The last time I ran Antutu Benchmark Test app on the O+ 360 HD, I got a score of 17,770, which is pretty standard for handsets having similar innards. Likewise, this relatively high mark is reflective of the phone's good gaming capability. This chipset, in particular, can definitely handle specs-intensive games like Modern Combat 5 and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas without annoying lags.
How's the battery life, you ask? Well, I usually get around 8 to 10 hours of uptime from the phone's removable 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery pack with regular usage. It's not as long an uptime as what the O+ Ultra gives me - which stays on for around 2 days with mixed usage on 3G - but I think it's good enough for a phone in this price echelon. For me, it's not one of its main selling points but it's not all too much of a liability or weakness either.
O+ 360 HD, which I highly recommend for all Android fans who are looking for a good-looking yet budget-friendly smartphone that has a great camera and set of value-added features, is now available at all O+ USA Concept Stores, kiosks, and partner retailers across the Philippines. It's out in two colors - Blue and Gray - and it dons an official suggested retail price of only Php 6,395.
