Best Smartphones Under Php 3,000 by SKK Mobile, As of First Half of 2015 : Lynx Edge and Aura
From being one of the smaller players in the local handset scene, SKK Mobile has managed to become a serious contender in the market (and to get hundreds of thousands of fans online) by consistently releasing Android smartphones that don't only have good specs but are also very affordable.
Given the success of the brand, it's no wonder that I - along with my colleagues in the local tech blogging scene, I'm sure - would regularly receive questions about SKK Mobile's products from friends and readers. The past few weeks, one of the inquiries that I'd often get is about SKK's ultra-budget smartphones.
They'd ask, "Sir Mark, what are the best SKK Mobile Android handsets that are under Php 3,000?"
Well, last weekend, I decided to swing by SKK Mobile's kiosk in SM San Lazaro CyberZone to check out the company's latest product line-up. I specifically looked for models that are priced at less than Php 3,000 and asked the sales staff which of those they'd recommend based on specs, design, and features.
So guys, to address your inquiry, here are two models - from those that I've seen in the flesh - that I think would give the most value for that amount.
Priced at only Php 2,099, SKK Lynx Edge is one of the most affordable members of the Pinoy brand's Lynx series, which is now very popular among students and yuppies.
Available in a variety of youthful hues (actually its back cover is swappable), Lynx Edge sports a 4-inch WVGA display, a 2 MegaPixel main cam and VGA selfie cam combo, and a 1,700 mAh Li-Ion battey pack.
As for its internal hardware, Lynx Edge has 512 MB of RAM, 4GB of expandable storage, and runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat with its Quad Core 1.3 GHz ARM Cortex A7 and Mali-400 MP GPU based Spreadtrum SC8830 chipset, which is probably the one thing that makes it better than other similarly priced handsets that are out in the market.
The second sub-Php 3,000 SKK model that I like is the new Aura phablet. This one has the same Php 2,999 price tag as the SKK Lynx Lite (which is also a great phone under 3K) but it has larger 5.5-inch qHD display that puts it well within the phablet category.
If you want an attractive smartphone - with lush metallic accents - that has a large screen for enjoying content and you don't mind that it only has 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM, go ahead and check out this model.
Other key features of the SKK Aura include its Quad Core Spreadtrum SC8830 SoC - similar to what powers the Lynx Edge, 5 MegaPixel main camera, 2 MP front cam, 2,700 mAh battery pack, Dual SIM Dual Standby capability, and 3G HSPA+ support.
Do you own an SKK Android smartphone? What can you say about your unit? Are you happy with your purchase? For the benefit of other Pinoy consumers who are thinking about purchasing a phone from this Pinoy company, I hope you can share a quick and honest review of your handset in our comments section below. Thanks!
