Xiaomi Redmi 2 Philippines Price is Php 5,999 : Complete Specs, Antutu Benchmark Score, Initial Impressions
As of writing, there's only one smartphone model from Xiaomi that's officially available in the Philippines. 'Officially' means that the Chinese company's local headquarters itself is on top of its distribution.
And that's the entry-level Android handset, Xiaomi Redmi 2, which has an official suggested retail price of only Php 5,999. You can purchase this phone online through Lazada or via Xiaomi's new physical store outlets nationwide including most MemoXpress, JR.MX, and PC Express branches.
Our friends from Xiaomi haven't disclosed the exact reason why they have chosen not to launch their recent high-end and flagship level handsets in the Philippines. Hopefully, they're just waiting for the 'right time' to do it, since - based on the inquiries that I get from Xiaomi fans across the country - I know that many Pinoys are likewise interested to get those models. Off hand, though, it's clear why they brought Redmi 2 here -- and that's because local Android smartphone sales are strongest in its price echelon.
Despite being an entry-level model, Xiaomi Redmi 2 has many qualities that I'm sure many of you will love. I sure have found them quite endearing. For one, the phone has a very solid build and flaunts a no-nonsense design identity that's free from unnecessary and tacky elements. The brilliant and clear 4.7 inch HD IPS display is also fairly large and is protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 2. I'd say its screen and shell combine to give Xiaomi Redmi 2 an air of both durability and understated elegance.
Xiaomi Redmi 1s was one of the best cameraphones in its price category last year and the same thing can be said of its 2015 follow-up. The Redmi 2's 8 MegaPixel autofocus main camera with HDR mode and 1.4 µm pixel size along with the 2 MegaPixel selfie camera with 'age detection' feature combine to make this release a pretty capable point-and-shoot camera replacement.
What truly sets Xiaomi Redmi2 apart from all Android smartphones in its price category is that it runs the latest version of Xiaomi's own experience or interface for Android operating system called MIUI. App-drawer-free MIUI doesn't only have a refined look - characterized by thin line and fonts - but it also comes with neat features enhancing the user experience including downloadable themes and a more intuitive notificiations and quick access drop-down tab.
Xiaomi Redmi2 is also hardly a push-over when it comes to internal hardware. The handset is powered by a more than capable Quad Core 1.2 GHz ARM ARM Cortex A53 and Adreno 306 GPU based Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset, has 1 GB of RAM, and comes with 8 GB of ROM that you can augment using the handset's microSD card expansion slot.
Is this handset right for you? To be honest, there are many handsets priced at around Php 4,000 to Php 6,500 from our local players that have better technical specifications compared to the Xiaomi Redmi 2. Nonetheless, this smartphones has its own charms - including all of those that I mentioned above and perhaps a few more that you can discover yourself when you start using it - to make it worthy of your hard-earned money. If you're a big Xiaomi fan and you've always wanted to get a Mi phone but you're on a tight budget, I'd say Xiaomi Redmi2 would be perfect for you.

The volume rocket and power button are made of real metal and are located on the right side of the handset for easy access using your thumb if you're right-handed or your index and middle finger if you're left-handed.
The microUSB port is located at the rear so wires won't be in the way in case you want to use the phone while you're charging it.
The matte, polycarbonate phone's back cover is removable, giving you access to the also removable 2,200 mAh Li-Ion battery, the dual microSIM card slots (one of which supports LTE connectivity) and the microSD card memory expansion slot.
You'll find the 3.5 mm audio jack at the top panel. Redmi 2 doesn't ship with earphones but this jack supports a variety of headphones that are out in the market like Apple Earpods, Beats Tour, and - of course - Xiaomi's own Piston earphones.

These technical specifications along with the software experience gave the Xiaomi Redmi 2 an Antutu Benchmark Score of 19,802 when I ran the test on the phone just yesterday. This score tells us that the phone is can run practically any game from the Google Play Store without stuttering.
Let's jump to packaging design. Xiaomi Redmi 2 comes with this familiar brown paper box that the Chinese company has been using for its handsets since its very first Android phone release.
The standard retail package in the Philippines include the unit itself, the 2,200 mAh Li-Ion battery, microUSB to USB cable, travel charger, user manual and warranty certificate.
