Cherry Mobile Omega 4G Price is Php 5,999 : Affordable LTE-Enabled Android 5.1 Lollipop Smartphone, Quietly Launched!
Thanks to all of my readers who sent me details about this cool, new smartphone from Cherry Mobile. I got all of your messages. It just took me a while to work on the post as I've been running around a lot lately, attending events and having meetings with our partners.
First off, I want to give credit to Alexander Tan for these two photos of the actual Cherry Mobile Omega 4G. Our friends from CM have yet to introduce this particular model to tech bloggers so I'm grateful that we have gadget enthusiasts like Alex who very vigilant about the latest releases from our handset players and are quick to update us when they see new products in store shelves.
Priced at only Php 5,999 and now available at select outlets nationwide, Cherry Mobile Omega 4G is another affordable powerhouse from our biggest local phone brand. As of writing, it is also one of the most affordable Dual SIM LTE-enabled handsets running Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system that's out in the market.
Before I give you the specs, let's talk about the device's looks. As you can see, the phone comes with a rather subdued design identity that's devoid of unnecessary frills and embellishments. The most striking feature of the Omega 4G is its polycarbonate back-cover with metallic finish that gives the product an air of understated elegance. I'm loving the clean lines and no-nonsense look.
On the outside, the handset sports features that are fairly typical of 2015 Android smartphones in this price bracket. Omega 4G has a 5-inch HD - that's 1280 x 720 pixels resolution - IPS display panel, a 13 MegaPixel autofocus main camera with LED flash, a 5MP selfie cam in front, and a Full HD video recorder. Underneath its back plate, you will find the phone's 2,000 mAh battery pack and Dual microSIM card slots -- one of which supports LTE connection at any given time.
It's what's inside that makes this Php 5,999 model particularly special. It runs the latest version of Android OS - that's 5.1 Lollipop - with a 64-Bit Quad Core 1 GHz ARM Cortex A53 and Mali T720 GPU based MediaTek MT6735 chipset, has 2GB of RAM for smooth multitasking, and has 16GB of internal storage. This set of internal hardware is already very good for a smartphone with this such price tag.
So do I recommend it? As you know, Cherry Mobile has a number of amazing smartphones in the Php 5,000 to Php 7,000 price echelon -- so we won't have to look far for a competing handset to consider alongside this model. For instance, there's the Cherry Mobile G1 Android One smartphone released several days ago, which has a less powerful processor but has a bigger battery and is a Google-sanctioned device, which means that it should get firmware upgrades ahead of all others. Lots of other good smartphones to consider, actually. But if you're looking for a daily driver that has an updated 64-Bit processor, a good pair of cameras, LTE mobile connectivity support, and an attractive design language, I'm inclined to believe that Cherry Mobile Omega 4G won't disappoint.
