Samsung Galaxy J5 Price in the Philippines is Php 9,990, Specs, Antutu Benchmark Score, Features
Korean Giant - Samsung Mobile - has just made a new midrange smartphone available in the Philippines. And just like more than a handful of recent releases by other brands (both local and international) the handset also targets users who love to take selfies.
Priced at Php 9,990 upon launch, Samsung Galaxy J5 is the bigger and more expensive sibling of the best-selling Samsung Galaxy J1, which was launched in the country last March 2015.
The newer model features a larger and more crisp 5-inch HD SuperAMOLED display compared to the 4.3-inch WVGA TN panel of the Php 5,490 J1 -- but that's hardly the only thing that's of note about the J5.
For one, it also comes with a higher resolution 13 MegaPixel autofocus camera at the back and it also supports LTE Cat4 connectivity allowing users to enjoy ultra-fast mobile data speeds.
On top of that, the device has above average internal hardware for a smartphone by a multinational company in this price echelon.
In terms of looks, Samsung Galaxy J5's design is largely reminiscent of flagship and midrange Galaxy handsets in the past -- especially Samsung Galaxy S3, Note 2, and Grand. It dons a rounded footprint and flaunts a faux-metal, chrome-plated accent running down its sides.
But the real highlight of this model - when you compare it to almost similarly priced Samsung Galaxy E5 - is its 5 MegaPixel front-facing camera with BSI sensor and Soft LED flash, which lets users take selfies even when there's zero ambient light available. On the software, the camera has a Beauty Mode that instantly evens out skin-tone and enhances facial features for better looking self-portraits.
Powered by a removable 2,600 mAh battery pack and having Dual SIM Dual Standby capability, Samsung Galaxy J5 is now available at all Samsung Concept Stores and authorized retail outlets across the archipelago. Again, you can get it for only Php 9,990 -- and you have three color options, namely, Black, White, and Gold.
Is it the right handset for you? I've said this before, the market is now flooded with so many Android smartphone choices -- especially in the sub-Php 10,000 price category. For Php 9,990, you can already get a flagship-level handset by a local brand or a good midrange device from a Chinese manufacturer. Compared to some of those models, Galaxy J5 is inferior in terms of technical specifications and even build. That said, I would advise you to check out competing handsets before making a purchase as you might find one that would give better bang for the buck. But hey, if you're a big Samsung fan and you're already 100% convinced that the J5 is the ideal handset for you, go ahead and get it; Because while I don't think it's the best phone in this price echelon, having played with the Samsung Galaxy E5 that has largely the same specs and features, I bet the J5 is capable of delivering a fun and enjoyable mobile experience.

I would like to give credit to PhoneBunch for these Samsung Galaxy J5 photos.
On top of that, the device has above average internal hardware for a smartphone by a multinational company in this price echelon.
Under the hood, the Galaxy J5 runs its TouchWiz-skinned Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with a fairly powerful Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 chipset incorporating four ARM Cortex-A53 cores and an Adreno 306 GPU, has 1.5 GB of RAM, and comes with 16GB of ROM.
With such innards, Samsung Galaxy J5 gets an Antutu Benchmark Score in the range of 20,000 to 22,000. In this particular test ran by NothingGeek, the phone got a mark of 21,597. which I think shows that the J5 is capable of running specs-intensive games and apps as well as delivering a stutter-free touch experience.
