Cherry Mobile MAIA Pad Price Php 2,999, Specs, Unboxing, In the Flesh Photos
Today - September 29, 2013, local electronics giant Cherry Mobile launched a couple of Intel-powered tablets under its new MAIA Series and this is the more affordable model of the two:
The Cherry Mobile MAIA Pad with phone functionality.
Crafted in partnership with leading chipset maker Intel, CM's MAIA devices are made for millenials - including students and young professionals - who live active lifestyles. This line aims empower these specific target consumers with technology, helping them achieve their dreams and goals in life.
With official suggested retail price of only Php 2,999, the MAIA Pad is most probably the most budget-friendly device out there that's already powered by Intel's new Sofia platform. This is obviously the main selling point of this release.
According to Intel, Intel Atom x3 Processor Series - also known as Sofia - provides a foundation for full-featured and cost-effective platforms with fast and seamless mobile experiences which meet today’s consumers’ expectations. This 64-Bit 1 GHz chipset - powering the Cherry Mobile MAIA Pad - processor includes a quad-core Intel Atom CPU, a Mali 450-MP4 graphics chip, and an integrated 3G modem.
Apart from its rather powerful processor, the other features of this slate are pretty standard for an Android tablet with such low price tag.
Its shell - available in Black and White - is made primarily of plastic or polycarbonate and doesn't really have metal or metallic design accents. The back plate of Black version, though, has a matte finish that feels great to the touch and resists fingerprint grime.
As for the technical specifications, MAIA Pad sports a 7-inch Wide Screen 600 x 1024 pixels WSVGA TN display panel, a 2 MegaPixel fixed focus rear camera sans LED flash, 0.3 MP VGA front cam, and a 2,800 mAh battery pack.
At its heart, this 3G-enabled Dual-SIM tablet-smartphone hybrid handles multitasking with 1GB of RAM and has 8GB of ROM that you can beef up using the device's microSD card slot. These internal hardware along with the tablet's Intel Sofia chipset should be enough to deliver a decent touch experience as you navigate the device's Android 4.4 KitKat operating system
Now, let's do a quick unboxing and check out what you'll get for Php 2,999.
"Today's youth are more empowered and capable than ever. Their technological savvy presents them with the opportunities to accomplish more given the right avenues to express their passion. This is what we aim to leverage through our partnership with Cherry Mobile. The new MAIA series of mobile devices can help us provide amazing experiences to the youth, empowering them though affordable but competitive devices to help them take control of their productivity," Mr. Callum Chisholm, Intel Philippines' Country Manager, shared during the #KayaWithMAIA launch held at Makati Diamond Residences.
In a nutshell... MAIA Pad is an entry-level tablet with a good processor and with phone functionality. Apart from those two key features (and maybe, the WSVGA resolution of the display), there's nothing particularly of note about this product. Nonetheless, when you consider its really affordable price, it's hard to nitpick on its shortcomings and points for improvement. In fact, thinking about everything that MAIA Pad offers for that amount, I think it's one of the best tablets out there that you can get for less than Php 3,000.
Cherry Mobile MAIA Pad is now available at all CM Concept Stores, kiosks, and authorized retail outlets across the country. If you're currently on the look out for a very affordable tablet that you can also use as a phone and is powerful enough to let you play 3D games on it, I think you should definitely include this model in your list of slates to check out.
