Huawei Y5C Price in the Philippines is Php 3,490 : Full Specs, Antutu Benchmark Score, Key Features
"Sir, that's the phone that Kathryn Bernardo is promoting," the saleslady at a smartphone shop in SM San Lazaro CyberZone told me last weekend while I was looking - through the glass - at this model on the display cabinet.
I'm sure many young consumers would be more than happy to get this model based on that fact alone. But I'm a tech blogger who's turning 32 soon so I asked more questions.
"How much is it and what are the specs? What are the freebies"
She answered, "[It's just Php 3,490. It's a Dual SIM Android KitKat smartphone has a 4.5-inch screen, a Quad Core processor, and an 8 MegaPixel camera. You get two free cases - in Red and Blue - when you buy the handset.]"
I was happy she actually knows that much about the handset. Some sales staff couldn't care less about the features of the gadgets they are selling; They just know the celebrities endorsing the brand.
Anyway, given its set of technical specifications, I honestly think Huawei Y5C is a good purchase for that amount.
While our local brands have already got this down pat, it's still quite hard to find a moderately powerful and feature-packed smartphone from a multinational company that sells for this low.
I mean, sure, the 4.5-inch FWVGA TN display panel, Dual SIM capability, and the removable 1,730 mAh battery pack are all pretty standard - these days - for a handset in this price echelon...
But the 8 MegaPixel autofocus camera with Dual LED flash, the 2MP front cam, 3G HSPA+ support, 1.2 GHz Quad Core chip, 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of expandable storage are a real treat to have on such an affordable smartphone.
In terms of looks, the handset is a bit of a Plain Jane -- and understandably so. It's one of the compromises that Huawei had to make to keep Y5C's SRP ideal for budget-conscious consumers. Nonetheless, you'll be glad to know that just like all devices from the Chinese company, this phone has a solid build that can certainly take the slight knocks and bumps of regular use. Or at least, that was the impression I got when I held the phone at the shop.
If you ask me, the real highlight of this model are its internal hardware. In particular, the Quad Core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A7 and Mali 400 MP2 GPU based Spreadtrum SC8830 chipset is what makes it capable of delivering decent gaming performance and stutter-free Emotion UI (Huawei's experience or 'skin' on top of Android OS) touch experience. Yes, you'll be able to play all 2D games (some non-specs-intensive 3D titles) that you can download from the Google Play Store on this device smoothly.
Y5C is now available at all Huawei Concept Stores and authorized retail outlets across the Philippines. I recommend that you check it out and give it a test run if you're on the look out for a sub-Php 5,000 Android handset by a multinational brand that gives great value for money.

Complemented by 1GB of RAM and 8GB of ROM, that chipset gives Y5C an Antutu Benchmark Score in the range of 18,000 to 19,000. Not bad for a Php 3,490 handset.
