Starmobile Play Neo Price is Php 2,990 : Affordable 5-inch Quad Core Phone with Smart Prepaid Free Data Bundle!
Now available nationwide with price tag of only Php 2,990, Starmobile Play Neo is currently the most affordable Android smartphone by the local electronics company that has a 5-inch display and runs on a Quad Core processor.
Prior to the release of this model, Starmobile only had two smartphones priced below Php 3,000; Play Club and Vida, which both run on a Dual Core processor and had 4-inch and 3.5-inch displays, respectively. I don't know if you'll agree with me but I think getting a specs jump in those two departments on a handset that's within the same ultra-affordable price echelon is a real treat.
And it also doesn't hurt that the device looks and feels more expensive than it actually is. In fact, when I first held Play Neo - during its media launch yesterday held at Capitol Commons, Pasig City - I found it hard to believe that it only costs that much. This Gold variant with chrome-plated accents is particularly stunning.
"Eli, this is powered by a Quad Spreadtrum 7731G processor, right? How's the performance of the chipset?" I asked Mr. Elijah Mendoza - Product Marketing Manager of Starmobile - at the event.
"It's the same as the [performance of other ARM Cortex A7 and Mali 400 GPU based Quad Core SoCs. But what's great about Spreadtrum is that it's more affordable and it's one of the things that allowed us to keep the price of the device down]," he replied.
That chip is complemented by 512MB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. I know. I also wish it had more RAM but I guess that's the area where Starmobile really cut corners on to keep the price of the handset below 3K. Nonetheless, when I tried navigating the vanilla Android KitKat interface and opening some applications like Facebook and the camera app, there wasn't any noticeable lags or stuttering.
Speaking of camera, Play Neo has a 5 MegaPixel autofocus shooter at the back with BSI sensor and LED flash, which is pretty decent. The sample shots that I got at the launched looked quite good on the phone's 5-inch 480 x 854 pixels FWVGA display.
There's also a 2MP front cam that you can use to snap selfies; Though you might want to do it where there's enough ambient light as it lacks a backside-illuminated sensor.
If you're the type of consumer who wants to know the full technical specifications of a gadget before making a purchase, you'll be glad to know that Starmobile always prints the complete specs of its tablets and smartphones right on their boxes; So you know exactly what you're getting. Here's the table for the Play Neo.
Oh, and another cool thing about this phone: As you can see clearly on its packaging, it's a Super Pack release. This means that Play Neo comes with a new bundle offer - crafted in partnership with Smart Communications - that's designed to deliver complete out-of-the-box mobile connectivity experience for Filipino smartphone users.
When you buy this phone, you will get free 700MB of data access via the pre-installed Smart Prepaid SIM every 30 days for 12 months! Simply load up an accumulated amount of Php 150 per month (for calls and texts) to enjoy your data allocation. It's automatic; You won't have to register. One that requirement has been met, a text prompt with notify you regarding your free data access.
"Thanks to our ground-breaking partnership with Smart Prepaid, Starmobile users can enjoy the complete trio of call, text, and data services right out of the box. That's over Php 3,500 worth of free data - it's like getting a smartphone for free," shared Mr. Michael Chen, Starmobile Product Development Head and Vice Chairman.
On the other hand, Ms. Evelyn Jimenez - Smart Prepaid Marketing Group Head said, "Through this amazing offer, Smart Prepaid brings the Smart Life experience to even more Filipinos, giving them free data to enjoy all their favorite mobile apps on a feature-packed device like Play Neo. Smartphone users can rely on the widest breadth of content offerings from Smart that instantly turn their device into an entertainment powerhouse to enjoy mobile games, music, movies, and more as they wish."
I honestly think Starmobile Play Neo is a steal at Php 2,990. I mean, it doesn't only look great; It even has good technical specifications and comes with a generous free data bundle. Talk about a device that gives great value for money.
