Sony Xperia Z5 Compact Philippines Price Php 29,990, Release Date, Specs, Actual Unit Photos
For the past five years, sizes of smartphones have seemingly grown in direct proportion to their power.
The bigger the phone, the more powerful it must to be -- or at least, that's the impression that most consumers get just from looking at many of the new handsets that are out in the market. And in many cases, it's rings true
With the freshly announced Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, the legendary Japanese electronics company - I believe - wants to prove that size doesn't necessarily reflect the power that a smartphone possesses.
In fact, even if this phone only has a 4.6-inch HD IPS display, which is a lot smaller than what you'll enjoy on other similarly priced devices, it can definitely stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of them when it comes to raw power and imaging capabilities.
With dimensions of 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm and weighing only 138 grams, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is the smallest member of the handset maker's 2015 flagship level Z-Series smartphones.
And yet, true to its name, it's just as powerful and feature-packed as its bigger siblings.
For one, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact runs its Xperia-skinned Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with the same powerhouse Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset that's at the heart of the regular Xperia Z5 and the larger Z5 Premium, which means that you get the same beastly gaming and overall mobile performance on this more pocket-friendly model.
While Z5 Compact only has 2GB of RAM, which is 1GB less than what's inside the more expensive models, Z5 Compact nonetheless has the same 32GB of expandable storage and 2 days of uptime with regular use with its non-removable 2,700 mAh battery pack.
On top of that, Z5 Compact also sports the same 23 MegaPixel main camera with 1/2.3” Exmor RS for mobile sensor for enhanced low light performance and Hybrid AutoFocus that lets you focus on your subject in just 0.03 seconds. This top-notch module make the trio of 2015 Sony Z-Series smartphone releases as the top cameraphones this year, according to DxOMark.
This main camera can also take 4K videos and with the Sony's SteadyShot technology, you can be sure that your videos will look steady even when you record them while you're moving. There's also a 5.1 MegaPixel wide-angle front cam with back-illuminated sensor that you can use to take crisp and clear selfies with your friends.
Looks-wise, Xperia Z5 Compact flaunts Sony's gorgeous OmniBalance design identity -- defined by a mid-frame sandwiched by two sheets of glass albeit the one at the back has a matte, translucent look. This construction is IP65/68 certified water-resistant but the Japanese company doesn't recommend that you use the phone while swimming; Just think of it as an added protection against accidental splashes and spills.
Just like its predecessors - the Xperia Z1 Compact and Z3 Compact, this year's model has all of its hardware buttons on its right panel.
The main difference, though, is that the power button is no longer but a small rounded metal bump on the Z5 Compact but is now bigger and it even incorporates a fingerprint scanner on top of it mainly for quickly unlocking the phone and for making Google Play Store purchases.
Officially announced in the Philippines alongside its two larger siblings via an exclusive media event held at Green Sun AXON in Makati City, Sony Xperia Z5 Compact will be up for purchase nationwide via authorized distribution channels starting on October 23, 2015. The single SIM model has an official suggested retail price of Php 29,990.
Is it the right handset for you? If you're looking for a beautiful and truly powerful Android smartphone with the best imaging capabilities that you can get on a mobile device this year and you want something that's small enough to fit your fairly small hands perfectly, you should definitely consider getting the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact.

Sony has been using this design language on its flagship and upper midrange smartphones since the launch of the first Sony Xperia Z way back in 2013. The frame of Z5 Compact is made of polycarbonate in lieu of real metal, which you'll find on the regular-sized Z5 as well as the larger Z5 Premium.
