The bands were amazing; The food was great; The games were fun. But of course, the real star of the night was the handset.

For those who are familiar with LG's mobile devices nomenclature, LG V10 is the first model in the company's new V-Series of Android phablets, which officially replace their 'Pro' line of high-end smartphone-tablet hybrids.

LG V10

"The LG V10 is yet another feat for our growing smartphone line as it is designed primarily for heavy users of both multi-media features and of course, the ever-growing social media universe -- all packaged in a smartphone. We are always out to push the boundaries of innovation and we believe that with the LG V10 we achieved more than we had hoped," shared Mr. Jay Won, Vice President for LG Mobile Philippines, during the event.

LG V10

As expected from a top-of-the-line release, LG V10 represents the best very that the Korean company has to offer this year from mobile imaging imaging all the way to handset design and construction.

LG V10

One of the most durable and rugged handsets available in the market, LG V10 also features the most advanced software features and enhancements for the Android operating system that the company has churned out so far.

LG V10

Here's how LG V10 looks in the flesh. I tell you, you have to give one a test run. It's a joy to hold and behold.

LG V10

In front, the phablet flaunts a massive 5.7-inch 1440 x 2560 pixels IPS display, which is almost too big for a smartphone -- and yet, LG designed V10 well enough to still fit in the hand - or at least, my hand - nicely.

The back plate sports the innovative Dura Skin silicone layer for added protection against direct impacts to the device. Dura Skin is soft to the touch but also is highly resistant to nicks and scratches. What’s more, the back grid pattern was designed specifically to offer a more secure grip.

LG V10

LG made sure that the V10 is durable both inside and out as it features a resilient Dura Guard frame that firmly secures the display in the case of accidental drops. This frame is composed of SAE grade 316L stainless steel, the same tough yet hypoallergenic material used to make surgical tools and luxury watches.

LG V10

Because the edges and corners are the most vulnerable areas of a phone, the extra protection provided by the Dura Guard frame ensures maximum durability. And along with Dura Skin, this construction is enough for LG V10 to qualify for MIL-STD-810G shock-resistance certification.

LG V10

Along with Rear Key that debuted on the LG G2, the company continues to innovate Knock Code, a personalized security feature for most of their smartphones. Taking things to the next level, LG V10 now also comes with a fingerprint sensor for unlocking the smartphone and turning on the display simultaneously.

LG V10

LG is particularly proud about the hardware and software mobile imaging features of the V10. In fact, for me, the most impressive selling point of this device is its manual video recording mode.

But first, let's talk about still photography using the phone.

According to the Korean company, LG V10 sports a 16 MegaPixel rear camera with F/1.8 apperture lens and OIS 2.0, which large the same as what's on LG G4. However, the difference lies with the LG V10’s 5 MegaPixel Dual Front Camera. Normally, wide angle images require a large and heavy lens which can distort the corners of photographs.

LG V10

The LG V10’s Dual Front Cameras have two separate lenses that capture standard 80 degree selfies or perfect wide angle selfies of 120 degrees, without the need to pan the smartphone which increases the likelihood of camera shake. It eliminates the need for selfie-sticks to get that perfect groufie with your friends and loved ones.

LG V10

"What LG G4 did with photography, the LG V10 offers a vast range of rich multi-media experience in video capturing, editing, and sharing. Being the first smartphone to feature manual video mode, the Manual Mode technology on this phablet has been enhanced coming from the LG G4 to handle video recordings as well. It is now easy to create professional-quality videos by adjusting options such as shutter speed, frame rate, ISO, white balance and focus while recording. The V10 gives three resolution options for video recording--HD, Full HD, or Ultra HD—as well as two aspect rations—16:9 standard or 21:9 cinematic," LG shares.

The LG V10 is likewise equipped with additional software functions to match its impressive audio and video taking capabilities:
  • Wind Noise Filter: Eliminate external wind noise for high-quality sound when shooting video outdoors.
  • Quick Video Editor: Easily trim or change the frame rate and add after-effects, such as colors and background music.
  • Quick Share: When finished recording, a pop-up appears on the display showing options of popular social networks to make video sharing even easier and faster.
  • Steady Record uses an electronic image stabilization (EIS) optimized for recording video to neutralize shake, helping to capture sharper video footage even when you’re on the move.
  • Snap Video Mode: Create one video by combining many shorter videos.
  • 15-Sec. Auto Edit: Create a short video highlight clip by automatically eliminating blurred frames and static scenes.
  • Audio Monitoring: Adjust the sensitivity of the three microphones more accurately during video recording and directly monitor and control audio inputs.
LG V10

At its heart, LG V10 runs its UX-flavored Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system - replete with a secondary quick access tab on top for often-used or favorite applications - with a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 chipset, has 4GB of RAM for ultra-smooth multitasking, and comes with a generous 64GB of internal storage that users can further beef up using the microSD card expansion slot. While the SoC could be better, I think the RAM and ROM are good enough for a model of this caliber.

Powered by a removable 3,000 mAh battery and supporting 4G LTE mobile data speeds, LG V10 will be available in the Philippines starting on November 27, 2015 with an official suggested retail price of Php 37,990. And when you purchase this phablet on that day until the 29th of November at participating LG Concept Stores, you will get a free 200GB memory card valued at Php 11,000.
