Pepsi Phone P1s Price is $110 USD! Metal-Clad Octa Core 4G-Enabled Android Phablet with Fingerprint Scanner, For Less!
Yes, you read that title right!
American snack and beverage company PepsiCo has just officially announced its first ever Android smartphone in China! Believe it!
The people behind Pepsi's operations in our neighboring country have yet to disclose what exactly motivated them to release a product that couldn't farther or more detached from their area of expertise -- but looking at press photos of the handset and studying its list of technical specifications, it's obvious that if Pepsi really wanted to, the company could actually give some players in the smartphone market a good run for the money. I mean, their phone looks pretty decent.
Clad in aluminum and flaunting a 2.5D curved glass face, Pepsi Phone 1s is a full-fledged Android phablet featuring a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display, 13 MegaPixel main camera with LED flash, 5 MegaPixel front cam, 4G LTE connectivity support, Dual SIM Dual Standby capability, and a 3,000 mAh battery pack.
At its heart, the handset runs its dido-UI-skinned Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with an Octa Core 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex A7 and Mali 450 GPU based MediaTek MT6592 chipset, handles multitasking with 2GB of RAM, and comes with 16GB of internal storage that users can easily augment using the Hybrid nanoSIM slot that doubles as a microSD card memory expansion slot.
With dimensions of 152.2 x 76.2 x 7.7 millimeters and weighing only 158 grams, Pepsi Phone P1s also sports a fingerprint scanner for quickly unlocking the device as well as for conveniently making purchases on Google Play Store.
But here's the best part: It's very affordable! Available in Blue, Gold, and Silver, Pepsi Phone P1s was initially up for purchase exclusively through a Chinese crowdsourcing site for only 499 CNY or just $78 USD (Php 3,667 with current conversion). The initial batch has just been sold out but a new one - with a total of only 1,000 units - is already set to be offered to consumers in China for $110 USD (Php 5,170) a piece.
I'm not sure if PepsiCo Philippines will bother to bring this gadget here eventually and I'm clueless as to how I can get a unit from China -- but I sure want one! Come on; Don't you think it looks really cool? I particularly like the hip Pepsi branding at the back as well as the real metal frame.

Dido (based on Pido Dido, I guess) is the name of Pepsi's own user interface or experience for the Android operating system. The company has yet to give a demo of the UI and to send us more screenshots but off hand, it looks like Dido has design elements similar to what's on FlymeOS and MIUI.
