Cherry Mobile Omega HD Nitro Price Php 4,499, Full Specs, Unboxing : LTE Ready 5-inch HD Android Lollipop Smartphone, Initial Impressions
Here's another freshly released Cherry Mobile Android smartphone that our friends from the leading handset maker in the Philippines showed me during my visit to their HQ last Friday, December 11, 2015.
'Omega' used to be Cherry Mobile's phablet line. But given the fact that smartphones - even the non-hybrids in other series - have steadily become bigger through the years, the company has decided to simply put Omega right smack in the middle of entry Flare and the high-end Cosmos in terms of pricing and overall features.
"The Cherry Mobile Omega HD Nitro is our way of updating our popular Omega line. Yep, this series is still very much alive," Mr. Lonson Alejandrino - Product Marketing Manager of CM - told me before showing me the phone.
In a nutshell, Cherry Mobile HD Nitro is a fairly affordable smartphone running Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system that's great budget-conscious business consumers who are looking for an LTE-enabled daily driver.
There are three things that I found of note about this Php 4,499 handset.
First, it's sleek and it feels very solid in the hand. The shell is made predominantly of plastic but the metallic accents on the side and either ends give in an air of both durability and corporate elegance.
Second, Omega HD Nitro has above average technical specifications for device in its price echelon. On the outside, it is equipped with a 5-inch HD IPS display panel that looks great from every viewing angle, a 13 MegaPixel main camera with BSI sensor and LED flash that takes crisp and vibrant photos, and a 5 MegaPixel front cam, which is fairly decent for a non-selfie-centric phone model.
Under the hood, the handset runs its near-vanilla Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system with a Quad Core 1.1 Ghz ARM Cortex A7 and Adreno 304 GPU based Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset, has 2 GB of RAM for multitasking, and comes with 16GB storage that you can easily expand using the microSD card slot supporting up to 64GB. This release is powered by a 2,200 mAh battery pack that delivers around 8-10 hours of uptime with regular use.
I really have to hand it to Cherry Mobile for being extra-generous when it comes giving their new sub-Php 5,000 phone models - like CM Omega HD Nite - great internal hardware. I haven't tried playing 3D games on this phone but I believe - given the quality of its innards - should be more than capable of handling that as well as of delivering smooth touch response and screen transitions.
And I finally, I like that this release already supports LTE mobile speeds letting the owner enjoy the fastest data connection from our networks while on the road, away from a WiFi connection.
Alright! Here's the standard retail package that you'll get for Php 4,499. Let's do a quick unboxing.
The box has an outer sleeve where CM listed some of the handset's key features and main selling points. Again, I wish that it's more detailed but right now, it is what it is.
Lifting the cover, we are greeted by Cherry Mobile Omega HD Nitro in its paper tray. Notice that the phone already has a pre-installed screen protector; Simply remove the outer sticker.
Here are all the items inside the box; You get the unit itself, the travel charger, microUSB to USB connector cable, headphones with microphone for calls and noise-cancelling in-ear silicone buds, and the user manual.
Any points for improvement? In the short time that I spent playing with the phone, I didn't notice any flaw or weakness that's terrible enough to stand out; The device looks great; The cameras are decent; The touchscreen is very responsive. Hmm. Maybe the battery could be bigger considering that the handset supports LTE connectivity. But then, when I think about the price of this model, it's something that I can forgive. Overall, I think it's a strong release. The only thing that it has going against it is that Omega HD Nitro has far too many strong competitors in its price category; Some of which are even its own siblings from Cherry Mobile.
Cherry Mobile Omega HD Nitro has just become available at all Cherry Mobile concept stores, kiosks, and authorized retail partners across the archipelago; Just in time for your holiday gadget shopping. It's a good model. I recommend that you check it out.
