Oppo F1 Selfie Expert Smartphone, Arriving in the Philippines on February 17, 2016
Chinese handset maker Oppo will be launching a new midrange smartphone in the Philippines on February 17, 2016 -- that's already Wednesday next week.
Apart from being very thin - measuring only 7.3 millimeters at its thickest point - and being rather light, there are three things - I believe - that make the new Oppo F1 a true standout in its price category.
First, F1 is one of the most beautifully crafted smartphones in the midrange echelon. It flaunts a real metal frame and is available in two luxurious colors: Gold and Rose Gold.
The handset comes with a white front panel. And frankly, in some angles, it looks like the Apple iPhone 6s, which is not too shabby - if you ask me.
Second, tagged as the 'Selfie Expert', Oppo F1 features a gamut of imaging innovations that supposedly let you take your best selfies regardless of the lighting condition.
These are headlined by the 8 MegaPixel wide-angle front cam with f/2.0 aperture, delivering clear and crisp images when there's ample ambient light. And in low light settings, users can rely on the phone's virtual screen flash - again, similar to the iPhone 6s' - to still get bright and brilliant self-portraits.
Oppo F1 comes with the company's Beautify 3.0 imaging algorithm that instantly evens out your skintone and enhances your facial features to give you great-looking selfies that are ready for sharing on social networking sites. It even lets you choose from several filters to make your shots even more attractive.
Finally, the phone comes with above average internal hardware given its price point. It runs its Color OS 2.0 flavored Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with the new Octa Core Qualcomm MSM8939v2 Snapdragon 616 chipset that incorporates four 1.7 GHz ARM Cortex A53 CPUs, four 1.0 GHz ARM Cortex A53 cores and an Adreno 405 GPU, has 3GB of RAM, and comes with 16GB of ROM that you can beef up via the secondary nanoSIM slot that also supports microSD card memory expansion.
The device comes replete with a 5-inch HD IPS display panel that's protected by scratch-resistant 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 touchscreen that gently curves down the sides. I wish that the screen had higher resolution and that the non-removable 2,500 mAh battery had higher capacity but then - I guess - that would have made the phone more expensive.
Oppo F1 currently dons an official suggested retail price of 15,990 Rupees in India. Given that information, I believe Oppo F1 will sell for around Php 11,500 to Php 12,000 when it becomes available in the Philippines later this month -- but that's just my guesstimate. I'll be gracing Oppo's invitation for the event on the 17th and I'll let you know this model's local SRP as soon as I get it there. Stay tuned, TP Friends!
Update as of February 17, 2016: OPPO F1 Selfie Expert smartphone has just been launched in the Philippines via a big event held at Trinoma Activity Center. The official SRP of the handset is Php 11,990. Our TP Guesstimate was quite on point.

Oppo F1 sports a 13 MegaPixel f/2.2 autofocus main camera at the back, which you can rely on to be a point-and-shoot digicam substitute.
