Apple iPhone SE Philippines Price and Release Date Guesstimate, Full Specs, Key Features
After months of rumors and speculations - some, eerily on-point and most, horribly inaccurate - Apple Inc. has finally announced its new 4-inch iPhone slated for release within the first half of this year.
Update as of May 10, 2018: Apple iPhone SE is still available in the Philippines through the Cupertino company's official online store as well as Apple's authorized retail outlets nationwide. The 32GB version sells for PHP 22,490 while the 128GB variant goes for PHP 28,990.
The Apple iPhone SE is the natural follow-up to the best-selling iPhone 5S from 2013 -- something that many users (who still prefer to own a small handset that fits perfectly in one hand, in the pocket, or in a purse) have long been waiting for.
Interestingly though, the 2016 iteration looks almost identical to its predecessor, making some Apple fans (including me) feel that the company merely recycled the chassis of the older model in crafting the update.
I mean, just take a look at the handset.
It's iPhone 5S through and through, right?
I love Apple but let's not kid ourselves; The company obviously tried to cut corners here and there in making this new version.
And it's alright, really.
I mean, with SRP starting at $399 for the 16GB version (versus the 64GB model that goes for $499), Apple iPhone SE is now officially the most affordable metal-clad iPhone ever (upon launch, that is). And this is made possible by Apple's decision to just use that old shell design and construction. So it's not that bad.
Based on its price tag in the US, my guesstimate for the local SRP of this model is around Php 18,500 to Php 19,000 for the 16GB model and Php 23,000 to Php 23,500 for the 64GB variant. Donning a relatively low retail price, iPhone SE is ideal not only for fans of the Cupertino company who prefer the smaller footprint of the iPhone 5S but also for young consumers - including students and yuppies - who may be a bit low on budget but are not keen betting their money on any other electronic brand apart from Apple.
Now, here's what's totally cool about the iPhone SE. Despite looking like iPhone 5S' long-lost twin, this new model packs the same power and imaging capabilities of the bigger and more expensive Apple iPhone 6S!
Yep! iPhone SE also runs iOS 9 along with the most specs-intensive 3D games for the platform with the beastly Apple A9 processor with M9 co-processor, has the same 12 MegaPixel iSight camera at the back with Dual Tone LED flash that supports Live Photos, and comes with 4K video recorder with slo-mo capture support! Heck, it even has the same 2GB of RAM for ultra-smooth multitasking. Given all that, you can think of the Apple SE as but a compact version of the iPhone 6S; Same power in a smaller form factor. Sweet!
Two notable features of the iPhone 6s, however, failed to make it to the iPhone SE: The higher resolution 5 MegaPixel front facing camera and 3D Touch pressure sensitive touchscreen.
The Apple iPhone SE will be up for purchase in the company's key markets (including the US, UK, and a few others) starting later this month. American technology giant as well as its network partners in our country have yet to disclose its official launch date in the Philippines but I'm guessing that it should land here just in time for our back-to-school season. Just keep checking TechPinas for more updates regarding this cool device's local availability; TP will be keeping you posted for sure.

Although it looks largely the same as the iPhone 5s, iPhone SE has one distinguishing design characteristic: It was matte chamfered edges in lieu of shiny ones on its predecessor.
