Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini 2016 Price in the Philippines Starts at Php 3,990 : Specs, Features, Release Date
Earlier this week, a number of my readers from across the country informed me that they are already seeing the 2016 Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini in malls near them.
This model is the Korean Giant's latest offering for budget-conscious consumers including yuppies and students who may be on a tight budget but are eager to experience the basics of Samsung's TouchWiz interface for Android.
With price tag starting at only Php 3,990 in some mall outlets and online stores, the J1 Mini provides a perfect introduction to the fun world of Android smartphones for those who are finally thinking about upgrading from their current feature-phone.
As you can see in these press photos, Samsung Galaxy J1 Mini flaunts a very simple, no-frills design language reminiscent of last year's best-selling Galaxy J1 as well as earlier models including the popular Galaxy Y and Galaxy Young.
In terms of technical specifications, well, it's entry-level through and through. Outside, the handset is equipped with a 4-inch 480 x 800 WVGA TFT display, a 5 MegaPixel fixed focus main camera sans flash, HD video recorder, and a VGA front cam for selfies. At its heart, J1 Mini runs its TouchWiz-flavored Android 5.1 Lollipop OS with a 1.3 GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex and Mali 400 GPU based Spreadtrum SC8830 chipset, has 768MB of RAM, and comes with 8GB of ROM that's expandable via the hybrid secondary microSIM slot that also supports microSD card memory expansion. The device is powered by a removable 1,500 mAh Li-Ion battery pack that should be able to deliver up a whole day of uptime with regular use.
Is it the right smartphone for you? Frankly, you can get an Android smartphone from one of our local brands with exactly the same specs - if not better - for only around Php 1,000 to 2,000. For instance, Smart MyPhone My28 Bundle which has largely similar features sells for just Php 888. Believe it! That said, I would advise buyers who are on a real tight budget to consider getting their new phones from Pinoy handset companies to get the most bang for the buck. But then, I know that there are consumers who are very conscious about the logo that's printed on their gadgets and for them, it's a main consideration in making electronic purchases even if they have to pay more for it. So I guess Galaxy J1 Mini would be great for entry-level users who have their eyes set on having a Samsung smartphone as their first Android device.

The device sports a faux metal rim, which makes it look a tad more expensive than it actually. I particularly like the seeming matte finish of the back plate that should resist fingerprint grime and make the phone easier to grasp.
