New Instagram App Icon Design Gets Mixed Reactions
Just a couple of hours ago, Instagram - the very popular Facebook-owned mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing, and social networking service - formally unveiled its new, totally redesigned app icon design, which officially supersedes the old brown-and-tan icon that the company has had since 2011.
According to Instagram (source), "Today we’re introducing a new look. You’ll see an updated icon and app design for Instagram. Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form. You’ll also see updated icons for our other creative apps: Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse."
Instagram also made improvements to how their mobile application looks on the inside. The simpler, more minimalistic design puts more emphasis on the user's photos and videos without changing or complicating app navigation.
"The Instagram community has evolved over the past five years from a place to share filtered photos to so much more - a global community of interests sharing more than 80 million photos and videos every day. Our updated look reflects how vibrant and diverse your storytelling has become," the company shared.
As soon as Instagram's new app icon went live, users flocked to company's official Facebook account to express their opinions about the redesign. The reactions are diverse and mixed, to say the least -- proving that the new look is rather polarizing.
I agree with users who say that the old app icon design is already - well - iconic. But I'm all for embracing change so I'm cool with the new one. How about you? Do you like the new Instagram app icon design or do you prefer the old one? Let me know your thoughts via the comments section below.
